5.0 out of 5 stars Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible, October 14, 2002

This review is from: Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible: Down-Home Reflections of History's Most Colorful Men and Women (Hardcover)
I love this book!! It is so interesting. I learned so many exciting facts about these Bible characters and about the Bible, (I can't wait until we study one of these people in Sunday School) It was so inspiring for me and sent me back to the Bible to reread these accounts again, this time with greater interest and insight into these characters, the greatness of God and the privilege of salvation. It also sent me into myself to take a good look at me. When I was finished reading the book I didn't have that usual let down feeling, I just read it again. It is strange how much I missed the first time. It is not a very long book but it is packed full of wonderful reading.

I recommend this book for anyone anytime. It is a book that will be read over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most enjoyable and enlightening, July 30, 2002
This review is from: Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible: Down-Home Reflections of History's Most Colorful Men and Women (Hardcover)
I loved this book because it relates some great stories in a highly entertaining, easy to read fashion (the author has a great sense of humor) without ever being "preachy" or "heavy-handed". This writing style makes it very easy to absorb (and appreciate) the very important points being made by the author. I can see this book appealing to those just starting to read the Bible as well as those who are already students of the Bible. Don Reid does an exceptional job of making the people of the Bible seem just like you or me, which makes relating to them that much more special.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bible's most famous and infamous figures, November 5, 2002
This review is from: Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible: Down-Home Reflections of History's Most Colorful Men and Women (Hardcover)
Heroes And Outlaws Of The Bible: Downhome Reflections Of History's Most Colorful Men And Women by Presbyterian Elder and Sunday School Teacher Don Reid (who is also an original member of the country music signing group the Statler Brothers for nearly forty years) is an amazing and revealing look at the Bible's most famous and infamous figures. Presenting Biblical stories in plain layman's terms, Heroes And Outlaws of the Bible is an eminently readable yet utterly fascinating retelling of timeless struggles. As entertaining as it is informative, Heroes And Outlaws Of The Bible is very highly recommended reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eight Wonderful Studies of Biblical Heroes, September 8, 2009

This review is from: Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible: Down-Home Reflections of History's Most Colorful Men and Women (Hardcover)
Don Reid's "Heroes and Outlaws of the Bible" profiles eight Bible characters with comprehensive and Biblically sound synopses of their lives and their relationships with God. In fact, they could be considered eight mini studies. Each biography references the Biblical address where the subject's story appears in scripture. Reid, the former lead singer for The Statler Brothers, conveys a depth of Biblical knowledge that comes only from the discernment of the Holy Spirit and good country living.

The foreword is written by Jimmy Dean. Yes, THAT Jimmy Dean. He is a longtime friend of Don Reid and offers a glimpse of insight into the author. This wonderful non-fiction book also contains some drawings that put the heart of the biographies into new perspective. This is a terrific resource.

I am now a huge fan of Don Reid! Always loved The Statlers but never thought there would be an author in the group! Alot of books about the Bible are so dull and dry that reading is impossible. Don brings these people to life for us in a way that we can understand...more more more Don!
