Editorial Reviews

This unique box set traces stories of three of Scotland’s greatest warriors. It features specially-commissioned reconstructions, and re-enactments, dramatized ‘eye-witness’ accounts, on-location footage and, of course, the rugged beauty of the Scottish countryside. Informative, but always entertaining, The Heroes Of Scotland provides an atmospheric and authentic record of three Scottish legends. Titles in the set are Rob Roy –The True Story, William Wallace –The True Story, The Bruce of Bannockburn.

During his short life, William Wallace never faltered in his struggle against the English occupation of Scotland. It was Wallace who, at the head of a small band of men, burnt the town of Lanark and killed its sheriff. He was was also the architect of the great victory over the English at the Battle of Stirling Bridge and wrought havoc in northern England.

Featuring stunning battle footage plus specially-filmed reconstructions and re-enactments, William Wallace is a powerful new telling of the story of a genuine Scottish giant. The influence of the mighty warrior can still be felt today. William Wallace is a powerful true account of the life of a man captured forever in the hearts of the proud Scottish people.

Romanticized by Sir Walter Scott’s famous novel, lionized most recently by Hollywood and the magic of the big screen –the story of Rob Roy has endured and is burned deep into Scotland’s national legend.

Born Robert Roy MacGregor in 1671, he embarked upon the violent life of an outlaw after the Duke of Montrose seized his lands and his fortune in 1712. As the head of the Highland Scottish clan, he pursued his career as a bandit and the stories of his bravery and courage grew. Although they are largely unsubstantiated, tales abound of Rob Roy’s generosity to the poor and oppressed earned him a reputation as a latter day Robin Hood.

Featuring stunning action footage from the movie Chasing The Deer plus dramatic reconstructions and re-enactments, Rob Roy –The True Story is a compelling look at the facts behind the legend.

In a mighty attempt to crush the Scots, King Edward II placed himself at the head of the invasion of Scotland. In their desperate hour of need came Scotland’s greatest medieval king, Robert, known simply as "The Bruce." The two forces would meet at a small stream within sight of Stirling Castle – the Bannockburn. The thunderous battle fought there would decide the fate of the nation.

Featuring atmospheric reconstruction and re-enactment footage, The Bruce Of Bannockburn features superb depictions of the savagery of medieval battle. The ebb and flow of a crucial day in British history is illustrated by the very latest 3D graphics mapping techniques combined with dramatized "eyewitness" accounts of the battle. With extensive original footage filmed in and around Stirling Castle itself, the program provides a unique record of the most celebrated victory in Scotland’s history.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really not worth it., January 6, 2008
This review is from: Heroes of Scotland Boxed Set - William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Rob Roy (DVD)
This product sounded so good, but boy does it lack. Of the three DVD's that all claim to be 50 minutes, one is 38 minutes with a lot of filler, and another is 42 minutes with some filler. Although some of the costumes and scenery are nice, the quality of the filming is poor. This all could have been done with less filler on one DVD and it would have been more enjoyable. As it is, when they tried to stretch each topic to try to fill up close to half a DVD, the lack of organization and the excess filler made this set a really big waste of money. The studio needs to edit out the filler and release it again on one DVD for less than half the price to even come close to making this worth watching.
