This was a good book for my son who is into superheros.
LoCo
We read the book before bedtime and then he'll keep it in his bed to sleep with him all night.

Good morals, art in the style of the toy line, and a nice streamlined story.

Two, two, two books in one! The blue side ("Heroes United") is an overview of the DC Super Friends toy line characters (Batman, Aquaman, Superman, Green Lantern, and the Flash). The flip side ("Attack of the Robot") does a good job of introducing basic conflict into the SuperFriends universe, with Lex Luthor inventing a giant robot with a kryptonite hand to menace Superman. The thing is, he's not just fighting Supes, he's fighting the whole team and teamwork always wins. Good morals, art in the style of the toy line, and a nice streamlined story. Bonus points for the little stand-up figures in the middle of the book for solo play. I recommend lamination for those bad boys--they're kind of flimsy. The only bad thing is the boys club mentality; despite DC Comics' push for the "Trinity" of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, the Amazon is nowhere to be found. I hope she shows up soon--my son actually complained.

My son already had the Super Friends action figures, but this little double-sided book made a perfect introduction to the iconic DC super heroes. One side of the book features the "Heroes United" story and the other featured "Attack of the Robot", with a section in the middle containing punch-out mini figures of the main characters.

"Heroes United" is basically a roll call of the five main characters. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Aquaman are all given a 1-page introduction with a couple of closing pages showing them working together as a team. I have to question DC's decision to exclude Wonder Woman from this book/toy line, as she would have given it some crossover appeal with girls. I'm glad they at least made an effort towards diversity by including the African-American character John Stewart as Green Lantern though.

"Attack of the Robot" reads more like a traditional superhero story, and is very similar to the classic Super Friends cartoons, especially in terms of corny dialogue. Superman is trapped by Lex Luthor's robot, and Batman calls the Super Friends in to rescue him. It's a simple tale emphasizing teamwork and friendship, and the violence is kept to a minimum.

The cutout figures in the middle are a neat addition, but were lost and/or destroyed within a day or two. The book, on the other hand, has been a bedside favorite of my son's for the past year.

This was a good book for my son who is into superheros. My only small complaint is the separation between the two books is a bit awkward once you remove the game pieces from the book.

The purpose of this purchase was to give my grandson a book he actually wanted to read. He loves this book and all the easy to read superhero books. He recited the titles of all the books I bought for him and told me how much he liked them. If you have a little one who finds books boring, the answer may be to find books he or she is interested in. My grandson (aged 7) really loves these books and enjoys reading them.
Batman Classic: Meet the Super Heroes: With Superman and Wonder Woman (I Can Read Book 2) Not wanting to be sexist but I think this particular series might be especially appropriate for boys.

This book is on heavy rotation right now for my 3 1/2 yo son. The story is not too strange or violent. Strong on virtue and teamwork. Great illustrations. In other words, perfect! I was going to buy about five more and, alas, they don't exist!

A real favorite here. It intros the superheroes and is geared towards little ones. Much to my son's dismay, no females are in this series, you have to go to Justice League if you want to see Wonder Woman and Hawk Girl, apparently they have not been deemed toddler friendly (their outfits might have something to do with that, or perhaps little boys wanting a Wonder Woman costume wasn't something anyone wanted! Ha!)

The punch outs are nice, but of course won't last too well. Once the little strips have been lost, consider cutting 1/2" circles from a paper towel or tp roll and stapling that to them for stability.

My son, who is almost 3, loves super heroes and is a big fan of the DC Super Hero Action Figures. He found this book and had to have it. I couldn't resist either. It is interesting because it gives the information on the 5 super heroes in one side of the book and then the other side is a story of how all the friends join together to save Superman. It is a very good lesson in friendship. And my son loves the punchout figures as well. They, of course, aren't very durable, but for the price, I would definitely say worth it.
