Mostly Heroes in this book!,

This review is from: Heroes and Villains: The William Messner-Loebs Benefit Sketchbook (Paperback)
This book is a benefit book done to help out Comic book writer and artist William Messner-Loebs, who had fallen on hard times. Mr. Messner-Loebs, if you weren't aware, wrote and or drew Jonny Quest, Journey, the Flash, Thor, Wonder Woman and Superman. But those aren't the heroes I'm talking about. The heroes in this book are the fellow comic book creators who have contributed pieces to the book: NEAL ADAMS, MICHAEL ALLRED, WALTER SIMONSON, MARK BAGLEY, JOE KUBERT, ERIK POWELL, JOHN ROMITA, PETER DAVID, DAVE COCKRUM, NEIL GAIMAN, KYLE BAKER, and many, many more.
In addition, the book contains a checklist of Mr. Messner-Loebs work, to help those of you who want to check out his comics. Personally, I thought his Johnny Quest stories were a wonderful mix of adventure and characterization, but sadly they are not in print as of the writing of this review. Another great series he did (which mixed philosophy, mythology and humor -- somewhat in the vein of prose author Tom Holt) was Epicurus: The Sage, which should still be available. Other books by him includeThe Maxx - Volume 2 with Epicurus co-creator Sam Kieth and Wonder Woman: Amazonia. |
