romance in war time,
By Beverly "bevreader" (Mississippi) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hero's Bride (Brides of Montclair, Book 11) (Paperback)
Hero's Bride continues the story of Cara, Kitty, and Kip from Mirror Bride and puts the three of them on the forefront of World War I. Cara and Kitty both decide that they cannot sit back while the war is being fought and follow their husband and fiance to France. Kitty stops in England to visit her aunt, whose Victorian English manor has been turned into a hospital for veterans. There she has a fateful encounter that will affect her life for years to come. Kip travels to France to become a fighter pilot, also meeting someone along the way who changes his life. In the background to the major characters are the older Montrose half-brothers, one who finds true love again, and the other, whose broken heart never quite heals. I can't wait to read the next entry in the Brides of Montclair series.

My Favorite Heroine,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hero's Bride (Brides of Montclair, Book 11) (Hardcover)
Kitty, perhaps, is my favorite (at least in this book) because she reminds me of her grandmother Kate Cameron. But she's also lovable like Blythe and shares her mother's warmth and vulnerability. However, Kitty's character is stronger than her mother's--she has more fortitude like her Aunt Garnet.
I'm really glad she didn't marry Kip Montrose who never loved her as much as she deserved. Kip is too much like Malcolm and Jeff--all of these men are selfish and arrogant. I'm glad she turned him down because he didn't deserve her. Even though I wished in Mirror Brides that they would end up together, I'm glad she didn't get her heart's desire. Fate was kinder to her. I love that she stays with Richard because he's the one that truly loved her. They are more alike because the two of them actually have some depth. In the end, she learns how to give sacrificially and completely to a man who's more her equal. Unfortunately, this book foreshadows the Kitty you will see in book #13 Daring Bride. The antiwar sentiments make her brittle and hard. She's not nearly as lovable in that book. I find it interesting how at the end of the book, Kip wishes to tell his son how horrible war is--and then Kitty and he believe very different things in the thirteenth book. It's very good they didn't end up together. |
