4.0 out of 5 stars Lysine is a proven medicine
This works way better than Abreva (which I find innefective). I tried it and was hooked. Lysine is the perfect antidote to arginine which is what feeds herpes outbreaks. Lemon balm is also an antiviral. Most medical doctors do not agree with non synthetic meds, but they do have a use to a point. Such as Tea tree oil for super staph (MRSA) etc.

I do believe...

1.0 out of 5 stars Dentist Says This Product is nothing More Than A Sunscreen
I am a dentist who sees a lot of people with cold sores, which is reactivation of a previous childhood bout of Herpes. The cold sore is the virus replicating as a result of some sort of stress that decreases one's immune system.

This product is a sunscreen and has no other medicines that are proven effective in treating cold sores. I'd rather spend my money...

I do believe that natural cures are here to stay, just be careful. But lysine is truely effective and Herpecin -L is great. It should have a new name though.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best product for me, October 7, 2005
By
Mimi (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Herpecin-L Lip Balm Stick, 30 SPF, 0.1 Ounce (Health and Beauty)
I started using Herpecin-L nearly 20 years ago, when I had the first flare-up of what became a recurring problem with my lips -- not cold sores, but related to cold sores. My lips were very swollen, cracked, and extremely painful. Herpecin was the ONLY thing that helped, and I've been using it ever since. I've tried every other product out there, but for my specific needs, it's still the one medication that helps me. I have this yucky lip issue far less often than I used to, and I attribute that largely to regular use of Herpecin. And even for use as a simple lip balm, it's much better than the rest -- it doesn't have any menthol or camphor, ingredients that ultimately dry your lips out. And it's not waxy, like a lot of other lip balms. It just moistens, soothes, and makes everything feel better!

My one fear is that someday they'll stop making this stuff, and I'm going to be in big trouble! It's the greatest! (I do wish they'd come up with a better name, though!)

1.0 out of 5 stars Dentist Says This Product is nothing More Than A Sunscreen, August 6, 2005

I'd rather spend my money on a bip balm with a sun protection factor of 30+.

If you are looking for a better over-the-counter product, I'd recommend ABBREVA. Abbreva has been shown in clinical studies to be effective, but the key with this treatment or any other for that matter is to start when you first feel the tingling of another cold sore coming on. If you wait and the cold sore erupts, virtually nothing will relieve it except time and your own immune response. So start applying Abbreva immediately for the best chance to limit the development of the cold sore.

Your dentist or doctor can prescribe anti-virals in either a topical form or a tablet form for severe cold sore cases, but once again, if it is not started immediately, the cold sore will develop and stay with you for 10 days or so. Ask for Zovirax or Denavir.

Always use a lip balm with sunscreen and too much sunlight can trigger a cold sore.

Abbreva is a good product. As with any product, it will not work in everyone who tries it - but it is certainly worth a try.

1.0 out of 5 stars Herpecin L, September 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Herpecin-L Lip Balm Stick, 30 SPF, 0.1 Ounce (Health and Beauty)
The description is totally wrong on this product. The product that we were looking for was the Herpecin-L stick with the 36spf; however when we received the product it is actually a 30spf. After doing further research we found that the formula has changed. We had already purchase the 30spf in a local store and it didn't work; however we had an old tube that did work and it was a 36spf.
ABC Wholesale was very efficient in refunding our money. However, if the description had been correct, it would had saved all of us a lot of time and effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars The absolute best for your lips. Period., May 30, 2011

This review is from: Herpecin-L Lip Balm Stick, 30 SPF, 0.1 Ounce (Health and Beauty)
Since I first burned my lips in the sun over 30 years ago I have been prone to burning, blistering and the horrible and embarrassing cracked, bleeding mess that follows. I discovered Herpecin L after a severe burn episode when many competitive and sometimes expensive alternative products failed to help. Herpecin L is the absolute best product out there. There is no better. It just works. It prevents problems and, if you have just found the product because you are already having problems it will help you recover. Other products do not work nearly as well. I was in a pinch when I forgot to bring my stick on vacation and tried a competitive product (Ocean Potion Lip 45) and actually had skin and mouth reactions to it. Yikes! I switched back to Herpecin L and everything is clearing up nicely. Don't take any chances. Herpecin L just works, and it has a pleasant flavor, too. This may sound like a commercial or a planted review, but it is not. I have used this product for about 10 years and always keep a stick in my pocket and an extra in the medicine cabinet.

5.0 out of 5 stars DON'T ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE DENTIST, December 7, 2011
By
This review is from: Herpecin-L Lip Balm Stick, 30 SPF, 0.1 Ounce (Health and Beauty)
This product is truly amazing. I get fever blisters and the second I feel that tingle and apply this product, no fever blister emerges. And if I miss that window of opportunity, it makes the blisters much less itchy and painful and holds the spread. Unless a reviewer has herpes and has actually tried Herpecin....not just read the label and applied what was learned from a book, I don't give their opinion much credence. Sorry, no disrespect meant. Abreva works too but costs 4 times as much for a teensy amount, Valtrex runs about 5.00 a tablet, and 3.00 for the generic(not including the Doctor visit). Try Herpecin L, it is worth the 5 bucks and the worst you might get of trying it is a darned good lip sunscreen and conditioner. But, really, I have used it on my face, and on my body and IT WORKS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for cold sores, December 23, 2010
This review is from: Herpecin-L Lip Balm Stick, 30 SPF, 0.1 Ounce (Health and Beauty)
Herpecin L does help prevent cold sores. I use it as soon as I feel like I'm getting one. It also helps cold sores heal faster. Abreva also works, but this is much less expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like a charm, February 9, 2010

(REAL NAME)
I've had occasional cold sores since I was a kid. Usually this meant suffering through 3-4 days of active sores, which itch and hurt (and look unsightly), then up to a week or more after they "break" of healing. I've tried several different remedies, but so far, this stuff is by far the best product I've tried. At the very first inkling that a cold sore is coming on, I start using it. As a lip balm, it's really soft, making application easy, and helping to sooth and protect. And, the medicated ingredients do wonders for reducing the length and ferocity of my cold sores. If I start using this immediately, I typically will only have 1 or 2 days of active sores, and often they do not even break, making healing much fast as well. And, the price is fantastic for the value. Can't recommend this enough!

I have tried everything, looking for an effective suncreen. I'm in the sun at least 3 to 5 days/week. This one works exceptionally well as a lip sunscreen, and is so good as a moisturizer, that I use it every day.
