Since I want to become a vet, I thought that this would be a great book to read. From the first sentence to the last I was enthralled. The words James Herriot uses in his books make you feel like you are standing right beside him when he is talking. This book will make you literally laugh out loud and also will make you cry. The story in this book is not one easily forgotten.

I had a dear aunt give me a copy of "All Things Great and Small" as a kid. I began to read it out of boredom as it was summer and school was out. I remember how each chapter was it's own story--some sad and some quite humorous and in my mind James Herriot allowed me a accompany him on each vetinarian visit. Trully a wonderful book series. Now as a parent I can see how this book might make for a great bed-time story book for children.

I've read the whole series several times over, and it really brings to life images of English country farms. Cold frosty mornings, gruff country farmers, the rolling hills and dales of the countryside are all beautifully illustrated through Jame's Harriot's wonderful prose. It evokes thoughts of simpler times and whisks you away from the hustle and bustle of modern city life. A bonus if you love animals, but not necessary to enjoy these books!

I have read all of the "All Creatures" series and couldn't stop! I wanted more, more, more!!! The descriptive way James Herriot writes is delightful! You feel that you are in the Yorkshire Dales with Mrs. Pumphrey and Tricky Woo; Sigfried and Tristan. You agonize with James as he tries to win Helen. Superb!!!

I ordered the set of 4 paperbacks by James Herriot and am pretty sure they had been listed as being in "good" condition. Well, one had writing in it, another had such badly dog-eared pages including the cover which had a big crease running through it, the others had scratches, dog ears, even a torn page. I was too embarrassed to give this set as the present I had intended. At best I would say it should have been listed as in "fair" condition, certainly not "good"!

I ordered this 4 book "boxed" set for my grandaughter as a Christmas present. The books looked like they have been repeatedly handled and the "box" was a piece of light cardboard that had been hand formed into a box and sealed with clear packing tape. If you are expecting anything professional, forget about it. I am so disappointed and so never going to purchase anything from this company again.

These books have been one of my favorite sets since I was a kid - I read them many times as a teenager, and now that I am done with grad-school they are high on my list of must-re-reads. His stories are so heartwarming, and they contain wonderful life lessons. Some of them are so inspirational, and many are funny. They certainly are imbued with his love of his family, the Yorkshire, and animals in particular. I cannot recommend highly enough to anyone - particularly animal lovers, but anyone who enjoys an inspirational story. I am sure I will reread these many times during my life.

I have read quite a few series, however this one is the best one I have ever read. There are parts that you will fall off your chair laughing, and then there are parts that will make you cry. There is something for everyone. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice family type reading.

these books are the best i ever read. you can see the places described by herriot in your mind. i've read every book several times, and will read them all several more.

The seller sent me one book with first 2 stories in it. It was supposed to be four books. I accept that change without being asked. But the seller never sent the second book. I have emailed several times without any response at all. I will never buy from this seller again.
