It was very easy to put together and has worked very well for me.

The problem is with the cheap plastic material that is used for the pulley (wheel) around which the metal cable rubs when you step up and down on the stepper.

When my S.O. called to tell the company about the problem, they would send a replacement part, and it was nice that we didn't have to return the broken part.

This is the best equipment I have ever had. 1) It appears to have been made in the USA. 2) The price was great. 3) It works better than any other mini stepper I have ever had and believe me, I have had them all.

I am diabetic and control the disease by working out at least 45 minutes everyday which puts a strain on a mini stepper. This stepper, unlike others, can be adjusted up or down.

So far every stepper, the Wagan, Stamina, etc. etc and they have all broken. This machine is constructed so that all parts can be replaced if necessary. This is great. Thanks to Target for carrying the Marcy MS 93 Stepper with Handle.

The only negative is that they choose to use a monitor gauge made in China that has not worked from the start. But I can live with that.

This was great before it broke, and twice.

Because the pulley broke within one year, and I have to upgrade it to metal ($10 garage door pulley), I lowered it to 4 stars.

Then the frame broke. That's the lower rear leg section. The welded section came off.
I don't have tools to weld. The nearest welder wanted $50 to weld this back together. 1 star. I paid about $80 back in January 2010.
Unrepairable frame issue occurred August 2011.
It did help me sweat within the time it work. I weight 192 pounds. My wife weights 150. Did my weight break it ?

This stepper was intended for the winter when ice makes the roads impossible to walk or run on.

The stepping motion of this machine does not replicate the stretching of the lower abdominal muscles as you walk briskly. If I have a choice, I would walk briskly outside

This shouldn't break.

DO NOT BUY THIS STEPPER!!! (UPD 4/14). Up until today I was totally lovin' this stepper. I run in the summer but when the snow flies I hibernate indoors and was looking for a way to stay in shape over the winter. Well, today I was 40 minutes into my workout and the steps would only come about 3 inches off the ground. I turned it over and the pulley was split...just like the hamburger mentioned in the earlier post. I have not contacted the company but I bought this stepper on 12/20/09, not even two months ago, and have used it maybe 20-30 times but recently did a couple of workouts in excess of 30 minutes. Maybe it was too much for it to handle. Hopefully the replacement process will be hastle free and come quickly...I did find that the opposite side of the pulley was not split so I spun it around...after taking it apart to get the cable unstuck and reassembled it with the unsplit side outward so the cable would not bury itself in between causing the steps to fail. It worked - so I can still use it while the part ships.

Update on previous post - The fix above only worked for one workout...then back to splitsville. Also, the cable has broken twice. I don't use this machine year around so the parts look like they last maybe a month or so with regular use. In concept this is a great product but the parts are sub-standard. Don't buy unless you want to have your workouts interrupted having to wait for replacement parts.

Update in 4/14 - Do Not Buy This Stepper. Every year since I bought it I have had to replace the cable. I ended up replacing the pully with one I pulled off a Golds Gym machine and it has not failed as it is better quality. The parts on this machine are totally sub-standard quality. The cable just broke again for the 4th time.

I bought this as a back up for when I can't walk outside. I put it together fairly easily and I am challenged in this area! This stepper is challenging; I weigh about 105 pounds and it takes some effort to push the pedals down. The handle is nice for balance and you can adjust the height of the pedals. It takes up only a small area in your home. I only wish the tension could be adjusted as well. I would recommend this stepper.

I'm addicted to this chine. I'm 64 yrs old and have tried the AB-DOER, the AB-Lounger, a Weider total gym, and free weights and none of them worked at all. I weighed 206 when I started using this about 2 months ago (actually, I had one just before buying this one, but the cable came off of the pulley and I couldn't get in back on and the company I bought it from (Fingerhut) wouldn't do anything about it), I now weigh 176. I turn on some music and step away in beat.I've found that my Fleetwood Mac cd is best. Enjoy

I bought this product after reading the overall good reviews, great price, and sturdy appearance. It was easy to assemble, and I liked the handle bar. Used it about 4 times a week for approximately 30 mins each time - sometimes 40 mins tops. I weigh far below the max recommended weight. About a month or so later, the cheap plastic pulley split in the middle a la a hamburger bun, as another reviewer commented. I called the 800/888 number, did not get a human being, and got no response. I emailed the address listed in the user's manual, got no response. Wash, rinse, and repeat. So eventually I gave up and bought a similar pulley at a home store and re-assembled it with that metal pulley. Well, the flimsy plastic cord that rests on the pulley snapped after a few more uses. Called/emailed again to no avail. Since then I've used some more Yankee ingenuity and have tried to rig up a number of replacement assemblies with different pulleys, coated and uncoated cables and swaging. Absolutely ridiculous - the amount of time and effort I've put into this thing is more than what I paid for it. I also noticed that when using it for more than about 25 minutes, the pneumatic pumps would "tire out" and give you a very reduced range of motion. Unless you're looking for a product to use for only about a month, buy elsewhere. Customer "service" was useless. On the good side, the frame itself seems sturdy, with a comfortable padded area at the top. Which will serve well to securely hold some hangers once the actual machine is rendered useless...
