5.0 out of 5 stars My son loved this book!
I teach math at a university, and I recently picked this book up for my 3 year old when I was at a conference. I thought the pictures did a nice job of illustrating basic addition concepts. My 3 year old loved counting the hershey's kisses and saying the addition facts. He was saying, "one plus one equals two, two plus one equals three, three plus one equals four. I'm...

3.0 out of 5 stars A little underwhelmed
My niece and I love Jerry Pallotta's books, so I had high hopes for this one when I purchased it. It's ok, it's just not one of his best works. My niece got bored with this one fairly quickly, and I'm not entirely sure that she really grasped the addition concepts presented. Her question, "What's so special about math?" clearly showed me that this book did not hit home...

I'm learning my math mommy!" He was being introduced to math concepts, and he thought it was fun. That's exactly what I want him to think. Learning math is fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars educational and fun!, July 24, 2007
This review is from: The Hershey's Kisses Addition Book (Paperback)
Yes you could look at this and say it is promoting unhealthy eating habits much more however; children respond to the fun nature of using candy. Have fun! I am a teacher and let my children use this at least once a year.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's What Kids Love!, August 31, 2001
This review is from: The Hershey's Kisses Addition Book (Paperback)
Kids at the library during read-aloud time love this book. Yes, it's Hersheys, but I think too much is made of the parents issues with commercialism. Kids have interest, of course, in what interests them, and chocolate interests them. As there are no counting books about brussel sprouts, I guess we can't experiment with the dreadful little things, too. The bottom line is that they are fun and hold interest better than other math-skills books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Edible math, June 25, 2001
This review is from: The Hershey's Kisses Addition Book (Paperback)
There are plenty of math manipulatives besides a brand-name chocolate for children to use to have fun solving math problems. How about carrot or celery sticks that they can dip in nutritious yougurt? M & Ms have their own math book too. Why hook children on this commercialism when there are so many healthy alternatives?
