Herzfeld offers a useful handbook describing over 300 closed-end mutual funds as well as various trading strategies for individual investors. Closed-end funds are traded on the major exchanges; a fixed number of shares are available because the fund raises its money all at once while open-ended funds raise their money gradually. The thorough coverage befits Herzfeld's position as president of an advisory firm that specializes in this type of investment. He offers useful charts displaying funds sorted by category, advisory firm, performance, and expense rations for all funds he covers. Though performance results are given only through 1991, this book may complement current periodical services giving more timely data.
