If He's Dangerous is the fourth book in the Wherlock Series. The Wherlock's are a family with many gifts and secrets and pasts they don't wish to relive.

Where do I start??? Do I love the book? No. Do I like it? Yes. Something was just off for me. I think I expected Argus Wherlocke's story to be....well something more. In the prior books he was such a strong character. I did not feel his strength in this novel. Yes, there were circumstances that would take away some of that strength, but still it just didn't do it for me. I had higher hopes for Argus and maybe that was my problem. I loved Argus in prior books and I wanted to really love him in his book.

The heroine was Lorelei Sundun, a daughter of a Duke. She was a lovely lady. Very strong and open minded, something Argus needs, but doesn't recognize. He knows he wants her, but doesn't believe he deserves her. Lorelei is from a wonderful family and has an amazing father. She is a well balanced woman, perfect for Argus.

I enjoyed the read, but it was slow. The characters were well written, but the storyline didn't really grab me. I had no problem finishing it, but would it have kept me up all night? No. That for me is a given for a great book.

Even the villain in this book was lackluster. Argus deserved a stronger adversary. No real mystery in the book.

I'm not sure who or if there will be another book. Most indications from book sites is that the Wherlock Series was to be a trilogy. I do hope that Ms. Howell continues with this wonderful family. While "If He's Dangerous" was not my favorite novel in the series I would still recommend reading it.

Okay writing, but the hero just was NOT hero material in my eyes. He was dishonorable - he agonized over kissing the heroine, then he couldn't help kissing her, then he agonized over seducing her, then he seduced her, then he continued to get it on with her...and all the while, he KNOWS he should marry her, he KNOWS she would welcome his suit, he KNOWS it's expected of him, but he refuses even to entertain the idea. Why? Because of an absolutely ridiculous certainty that marriages for his family are DOOMED. *rolls eyes*

Yet he keeps on boinking the heroine...without any hint of birth control, by the way. Yup, lots of unprotected sex with the no-longer-virginal heroine, even though the "hero" should know better. Why should he know better? Oh, he already has two illegitimate children. That he doesn't tell her about. That she learns about when the two kids show up on her doorstep, looking for their pops. Yup. Real classy.

He only realizes he has feelings for her AFTER she's been stabbed in the back by the villain and is lying on the ground, bleeding. In fact, here's a quote that should show why I'm so frustrated with this hero and want to smack him upside the head:

"He did not like to think about how long he had clung to the idea of a curse. It was embarrassing now that he sat and actually thought it out. Worse, he had left Lorelei to think that he saw what they shared as no more than an affair. (Um, that's what you did see it as, buddy.) That was something he would have to deeply apologize for. It was also embarrassing to think he had to see her on the ground bleeding before he understood what she meant to him. He had even just silently accepted her words of love when they had made love, as if somehow they were his due. Something else he would have to apologize deeply for, as it must have hurt her."

Please, do yourself a favor and AVOID this one.

In 1790 England, Lorelei Sundun blinks several times to find a naked man gaping at her in her father's garden. She remains calm but appreciative as he introduces himself as Sir Argus Wherlocke; and further explains he does not want to be a duke's rose garden. However, their fascinating discussion ends in the blink of an eye when her nude guest vanishes.

While Lorelei ponders what happened including why she feels she fell in love at first naked sight, Angus wonders how his mental projection ended up in the Sunden estate rather than his clan who he needs help from as government agents plan to use his otherworldly skills for their benefit. When they meet again in person, as she and her cousins rescue him from incarceration, Lorelei affirms what she knew that they are life mates. However, though he wants her, Angus hesitates as the model for marriage is his parents' failed one so he tries to use his skills to control her feelings but love proves stronger than his potent paranormal power.

The third Wherlocke Regency fantasy (see If He's Wicked and If He's Wild) is a terrific paranormal historical romance from the opening scene when the duke's daughter and the naked lord meet and never slows down until the final "confrontation" with her father. Fans will relish this charmer as another eccentric Wherlocke finds love.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. It was a fast-paced story that had me laughing and crying. I really enjoy historical romance and If He's Dangerous is one of the best I've read in ages. Ms. Howell has done a great job!

This is not my favorite that's for sure. The first 3 books I gave 5 stars, this one barely made 3 stars. It was somewhat boring and uneventful in comparison to the previous books in this series.

The hero is not so much a hero, he is pretty blah. The heroine I do like very much. I also like her back story and her family, including her butler, Max! She was strong, smart and witty.

There is lots of dialogue throughout the book which is great, I do like lots of dialogue. There is sex in this book so it is not a rated G book.

The story line and plot were a good concept, and it started out really good, but then the story just got lost and there seemed to be too much filler nonsense. The opposite of the previous books. They were full of anticipation and never a dull moment, whereas this book I had to skim pages to get to something happening. Just meh...

I will of course still read the next book and hope the author just had some writer's block with this story. I am looking forward to Lady Olympia's book.

As for the narrator, she is good. The men sound like men, the ladies sound like ladies and she does give most everyone their own distinct voice.

I got this as a free read with my KU subscription and 2.99 on audible. Glad I didn't pay anymore than that.
