3.0 out of 5 stars The story's fine...But the writing needs improvement
This book was fairly readable, however, I found it to be rather irritating. Although I just stepped foot into my twenties, I prefer to read a novel that sounds as if a mature adult wrote it. For example, the author used the word "she" as a sentence opener for nearly a whole chapter. The repetitiveness made the book feel as if a high schooler wrote it instead of a college...

This review is from: He's Fine... But is He Saved? (Paperback)
This novel is based on three single friends who are trying to live their lives completely dedicated to Christ. Two of them Michelle and Sandy are dealing with relationship issues. Michelle is more progressed in her Christian walk, but has had a tough time finding the man intended for her. Her most recent relationship with a man from her church hits a few bumps in the road during the book. We see her applying the word of God to her life as she tries to walk completed in the Spirit and not in her own flesh.

Sandy is a relatively new convert dealing with the struggles of leaving behind her worldly ways and her old approach to relationships. She's desperately seeking a Christian mate...to the point that she makes some missteps along the way. As we follow Sandy, we wonder if she'll be able to stop looking behind and look completely forward towards her Savior.

The third of the friends, Liz, is called to the ministry as an evangelist. She is sold out to God and has little patience for the likes of Sandy, who appear to have one foot in the church and one in the world. Liz's bigger problem is dealing with her Mom, who at 45 is living a wild and free single life.

As we see the friendship of these women sustain them in their Christian walk, and see them each deal with the issues in their lives - we see them living according to the Word of God, in prayer and in scripture (both of which are used freely in the text).

The book is composed of chapters that bounce back and forth between the lives of these women. The ending is one that wraps everything up nicely with a big pretty bow. It is a nice story for anyone looking for Christian fiction that strictly adheres to the word of God.

Although a bit predictable at times, I give the book 4 stars for a valiant first effort and for being a book based strictly on Christian principles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Christian singles, January 5, 2005
This review is from: He's Fine... But is He Saved? (Paperback)
I read this book and found myself not wanting to put it down because of how down-to-earth the writing is. It is easy and fun reading. Not full of "over your head" language. Christian singles can relate to many of the people and situations in this book and this also makes it a joy to read. It is scripture based also, which I respected and found gave it even more creditability. You won't be sorry purchasing this book, I wasn't. It taught me some things about being a christian single while I was yet enjoying the characters. I found it to be very practical and easy for both men and women to understand and grab hold to. The ending will have you on the edge of your seat cursing the devil and giving praise to God. The author even responds if you email her! (smile) God bless!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking For Love, December 31, 2005

This review is from: He's Fine... But is He Saved? (Paperback)
HE'S FINE BUT IS HE SAVED by Kimberley Brooks is the story of three friends, Michelle, Sandy and Liz, who are all single, saved and trying to live their life for the Lord. Michelle and Liz are further along in their Christian walk than Sandy, but each of them have their own crosses to bear and realize when all else fails look to the Lord.

Michelle, a human resource director, has a successful career but is unlucky in love. When she is hurt by a man she met at church, her faith in men and relationships dwindle to almost nothing. She is left with a lot of unanswered questions and wonders whether it was something she did to assist in the relationship ending.

Sandy works at a retail store and is a new convert to the Christian walk. She is trying her best to live her life according to the word of God, but the fine men she keeps encountering make it hard for her. Having one foot in the church and the other out in the world, she is finding it hard living single and saved and sometimes thinks life was much easier prior to accepting Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.

Liz, an elementary school teacher, who has also been called by God to become an evangelist, is the strongest of the three in her Christian walk. She has little to no tolerance for Sandy and sometimes considers her a third wheel when it comes to her and Michelle's friendship. This, however, is the least of her worries as she deals with her mom being promiscuous and drinking. Liz firmly believes that the prayers of the righteous availeth much and she fervently prays for her mother's salvation.

HE'S FINE BUT IS HE SAVED is a fast-paced book that deals with real life issues. What I enjoyed most about the book were that the issues were easy to relate to. Anyone reading this book could see herself in one of these characters. Although the issues at hand were at times tough to deal with, they knew that God had their back, and if they just trusted in Him all else would fall into place.

For example, the author used the word "she" as a sentence opener for nearly a whole chapter. The repetitiveness made the book feel as if a high schooler wrote it instead of a college graduate. Yet, I did appreciate how she included scriptures into the chapters to show how the Bible encourages and guides us through all situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air for women readers, February 22, 2006
This review is from: He's Fine... But is He Saved? (Paperback)
This book is a breath of fresh air for women readers. This novel is fresh, fun, entertaining, but at the same time "keeps it real". This one of the best christian-fiction novels I've read. A must-read for anyone who really wants to know the deal on being Christian and single.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real look into the lives of christian singles, February 20, 2006

I read this book in a matter of hours. Michelle, Liz, and Sandi represent the colorful life of being a single saint. Kim Brooks has really captured what it is to be a single young christian woman dealling with real life issues. It's time out for sugar coating what is really going on in christians lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Enjoy This Novel Immensely!, July 18, 2005
This review is from: He's Fine... But is He Saved? (Paperback)
"HE FIIIIIIINE"! And with those two simple words, new author Kimberley Brooks takes the reader on a spiritual journey for single women. The novel closely follows three friends as they deal with the highs and lows of being single Christians.

Michelle and Liz are more progressed in their Christian walk then their friend Sandy.
Michelle has had a difficult time finding the man God intended for her. Her most recent relationship with a man from her church ended badly and left her with unanswered questions and more than enough tears and heartache.

Liz is called to be an evangelist and she is devoted to the Lord. Between her mother's drama and Sandy's antics, Liz is running out of patience. Slowly, Liz realizes that God places people in our lives for different reasons. Some people are there because they need our help. Some people are there because we need their help. But all are there because they need our love. Liz also discovers love in the most unexpected place. But then again, that is just like God to do the unexpected!

Sandy is a relatively new convert dealing with the struggles of leaving behind her worldly ways and her old approach to relationships. Everyday, Sandy struggles with what she knows to be true and what the world tells her is true.

As HE'S FINE...BUT IS HE SAVED evolves, the three women find themselves beginning to lean more on the Lord and each other. We find that not only does their relationship with each other and those around them change, but so does their relationship with Christ. Each woman takes her own spiritual journey of self-discovery that makes her a better friend, a better daughter and a better Christian. Throughout the novel we see them in their Christian walk, and see them each deal with the issues in their lives. We see them living according to the Word of God, in prayer and in scripture, which the author uses freely throughout the novel.

As a single Christian woman, I found myself laughing and crying as I recognized a little of myself in each of the characters.

You'll enjoy this book immensely!

Happy Reading!

3.0 out of 5 stars Issues, June 25, 2011
By
HE'S FINE...BUT IS HE SAVED? is the story about three single sisters in Christ, Michelle, Sandy and Liz. Sandy is a new Christian and she is looking for her husband. Patience is not her strong suit, and she finds herself falling for whatever a man has to say. Michelle is still nurturing a broken heart. When she runs into her ex, she is traveling back down memory lane. Liz was raised by a single mother who poisoned her against men and their ways. Each woman will have to learn to lean on their faith in order to get to the next phase of their lives.

HE'S FINE...BUT IS HE SAVED? by Kimberly Brooks has been on my shelf for many, many years. I love the prayers and the way the word of God is shared, but the story itself is predictable, condemning and naďve. The characters lack uniqueness, as they all sound exactly the same and the women's desperation was just too much for this reader.

This book was "all that"...entertaining, funny, and thought-provoking..."plus", it was full of surprises to keep you wanting to read the next chapter right away to find out what happens in the three young ladies' lives. Written very well and very real. Just finished it and passed it on to my young twenty-something niece!!! A definite must read for single ladies at any age, but especially the 20's crowd.
