Unlike "Mark the Man," I do not belive that women who are in a destructive relationship should be blamed for "picking" the man. After all, many people (not just men!) don't show their true colors until much later in a relationship--which is exactly WHY this book is so valuable--it helps women recognize the warning signs that they are involved with a man who is, like the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Woman As Victim Tome That Just Exacerbates The Problem
You can almost feel the negative energy of Ms. Wilson jumping off each page, as she whines and moans about the various victimizations that happen, sometimes correctly, to women. However, this is just another one of the zillion of "victimization" books that will be of questionable value to women that have a brain. Not to say that this book can't be a help to TRULY...

Unlike "Mark the Man," I do not belive that women who are in a destructive relationship should be blamed for "picking" the man. After all, many people (not just men!) don't show their true colors until much later in a relationship--which is exactly WHY this book is so valuable--it helps women recognize the warning signs that they are involved with a man who is, like the title says, just no good for them. For women who need help and answers and don't know where to turn, this book is a valuable resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book I wish I'd read long ago, June 30, 2009

This review is from: He's Just No Good for You: A Guide to Getting Out of a Destructive Relationship (Paperback)
Written in easy and accessible language, the ideas in this book are profound and powerfully insightful. I could see many situations that I've lived through with astonishing new clarity - like putting glasses on for the first time, noticing, "Wow! So THIS is what happened!" Not just for intimate relationships, this book is a must for women raising sons and women who work closely with men. I find myself much more skilled at recognizing dysfunctional behaviors in men as they appear, and now I don't take them so personally - or internally make excuses for them anymore. Now more discerning, I can now better recognize the blessed men who ARE genuinely kind, responsible and skilled in their relating to women. Of course, our popular culture powerfully reinforces (even normalizes) the destructive behaviors of the personality types identified so astutely in this book, as well as women having to tirelessly accomodate to them. Now with greater awareness, I am far more skilled at weeding out those "poor emotional investments"and focusing my energies on truly strong men. But warning - this is a book not to be read only once; it's one to keep handy for reference, as well as one to foist on your very best friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful, March 7, 2009
This review is from: He's Just No Good for You: A Guide to Getting Out of a Destructive Relationship (Paperback)
This book has helped me bring some clarity to a relationship that recently ended, but made me feel crazy during and after it. It's nice to know I'm not alone, and the book is an easy read that does not get boring at all. At times when I'm feeling down about my experience, I'll re read a chapter or 2 to get back into reality of what it was. I do recommend this book for anyone who is in an unhappy relationship (but maybe you can't pinpoint why), it will help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Applicable for all relationships, March 1, 2009

While I am currently in a good relationship (thankfully), I found this book intriguing and very informative. It validated past suspicions and gave me insight into why I have chosen the life partner I have. The author's clear, no-nonsense and engaging style kept me interested while making the information approachable (so many "help you" books are tedious and repetitive -- not this one!). But most interesting to me was how the book's information applied to my relationships with other women as friends. I found similarities not just with men I have dated, but also in the unhealthy friend relationships I have experienced (I have learned from the author that emotional abuse is abuse whether from a "friend" or lover). It has brought me a clarity in recognizing destructive behavior no matter what the guise: man, woman, lover or friend. I recommend this book to anyone who is wondering about whether that lover or friend isn't all that they seem to be. Don't deny your gut feelings -- read this book and find out!

This review is from: He's Just No Good for You: A Guide to Getting Out of a Destructive Relationship (Paperback)
I wish this book had been written a few years ago, before I ended up marrying a psychopath. This book details observable behaviors that we need to be on the lookout for. I truly did not know the signs and how psychopaths have two personas, the public one and the private one. My mind does not operate like that so I couldn't recognize the toxic behaviors. I also know now how it was that I allowed this destructive man in my life and how to derail the next one. Reading this book has opened my mind, and eyes to destructive behaviors that before never seemed to be so bad. But, now I can see them unfolding before my eyes and I can safely walk away. I did just that recently with a man I was dating. I felt so good walking (running) away for my own personal safety. I am also looking deeply within myself for the personal traits I have acquired from growing up in a dysfunctional family and how these traits open me up for meeting and getting involved with these toxic men. I am making changes in my life. This book is a MUST-READ for single women looking for Mr. Wonderful. Armed with this kind of knowledge will protect women from the many destructive, predator men out there. Learn to look for the Good guys who will make wonderful supportive partners instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great companion to He's Just Not That Into You, March 13, 2009
This review is from: He's Just No Good for You: A Guide to Getting Out of a Destructive Relationship (Paperback)
I loved He's Just Not That Into You: The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys, and I love this book as a companion to it! It details more about the bad news guys you want to avoid. The author gives great profiles of the type of men you don't want in your life. I admit, I thought I was too smart to get sucked into a destructive relationship, but He's Just No Good For You helped open my eyes and showed me that he WAS just no good for me. It's easy to get manipulated by a guy, so every girl needs this book as a tool to help you move on to better relationships! IMO It's a book Bella Swan from Twilight should read! After reading this book I am happier with a new guy who treats me with respect always, not just when it's convienent for him.

This author definitely knows her stuff! Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars An overlooked malady, March 15, 2009
By
This review is from: He's Just No Good for You: A Guide to Getting Out of a Destructive Relationship (Paperback)

At one time or another, women in all walks of life experience clever barbs and slices verbally inflicted by their boyfriends, husbands, mentors, employers. But in "He's Just No Good for You" Beth Wilson reveals the truly devastating nature these remarks can have; they seem so innocent, sometimes even funny. But men too often use them like death by a thousand cuts to dominate and manipulate the women in their lives. This must read book opens our eyes to this hidden malady and empowers women to overcome it.
