Is He A Keeper?, September 19, 2007
He's A Keeper, Leila Jefferson's debut novel, tells the story of Toni and Eric; nine-year lovers experiencing the roller coaster ride of a young relationship. With two children, decent jobs and a history together, it was not a complete surprise when Eric proposed to Toni. The union would be a confirmation of what they already knew; they were soul mates. The events leading to the wedding were laced with drugs, lust and an introduction to another, often forbidden, realm of sexual gratification; threesomes.
Will the ménage a trois solidify their ability to share any and everything? Or will the act be a gateway to more sex, lies, drugs, and murder?
He's A Keeper is a good, fast-paced read. The character development was excellent as well as the author's ability to write passages that continually move the story along; nothing, content-wise, out of place in this novel. There were minimal grammatical errors. The author removed the `t' from `that' when characters spoke which was distracting and caused me to reread sentences. The typesetting was off on the even pages, the print was small, and the binding made it an uncomfortable book to hold for extended periods of time. Though these were cosmetic blemishes, these issues affected my reading experience.
I recommend He's A Keeper to readers who enjoy novels that border on erotica without being vulgar, like intimacy with characters, and reading good fiction by new authors. Leila Jefferson is definitely an author with the potential to become a household name.

Swingers, drugs, and drinking, oh my!, August 26, 2007
This book takes you deep into the word of swingers. Swingers who do drugs, drink alcohol and party all the time while trying maintain households, careers, and relationships. Toni wonders why her world isn't what she hoped for even though she indulges on these things on an everyday and constant basis and engages in a sexual lifestyle that her husband to be disapproves of.
It's full of unexpected surprises. I don't think I've ever read a book quite like it.

He's Not My Keeper!! (token), March 4, 2008
He's A Keeper takes us into the world of Toni and Eric. Their break-ups to make-up days, partying to swinging. Everyone told Toni she had a keeper and what wouldn't Toni do to keep Eric? Wasn't marrying him and loving him enough? Didn't the vows say for better or for worse? Even adding a precious baby to the family didn't slow Eric down. How much can one person take to hold onto the love they once shared when things started spiraling out of control? What was Toni to do keep believing in Eric and control her world or take it back and control it herself? You'll decide after you read this book if he was a true keeper or not.
He's A Keeper was my first read by this author. I can honestly say, I was impressed there weren't any grammatical errors, and the plot stayed on track. If you are looking for a fast paced novel this isn't it, the author takes her time and make the reader feel and make you think back to the very first time you were in love until those last bitter days. It also show readers there are consequences in those vows for better or worse.
