He's A Keeper, Leila Jefferson's debut novel, tells the story of Toni and Eric; nine-year lovers experiencing the roller coaster ride of a young relationship. With two children, decent jobs and a history together, it was not a complete surprise when Eric proposed to Toni. The union would be a confirmation of what they already knew; they were soul mates. The events leading to the wedding were laced with drugs, lust and an introduction to another, often forbidden, realm of sexual gratification; threesomes.

Will the ménage a trois solidify their ability to share any and everything? Or will the act be a gateway to more sex, lies, drugs, and murder?

He's A Keeper is a good, fast-paced read. The character development was excellent as well as the author's ability to write passages that continually move the story along; nothing, content-wise, out of place in this novel. There were minimal grammatical errors. The author removed the `t' from `that' when characters spoke which was distracting and caused me to reread sentences. The typesetting was off on the even pages, the print was small, and the binding made it an uncomfortable book to hold for extended periods of time. Though these were cosmetic blemishes, these issues affected my reading experience.

I recommend He's A Keeper to readers who enjoy novels that border on erotica without being vulgar, like intimacy with characters, and reading good fiction by new authors. Leila Jefferson is definitely an author with the potential to become a household name.

It's full of unexpected surprises. I don't think I've ever read a book quite like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars He's Not My Keeper!! (token), March 4, 2008
This review is from: He's A Keeper (Paperback)
He's A Keeper takes us into the world of Toni and Eric. Their break-ups to make-up days, partying to swinging. Everyone told Toni she had a keeper and what wouldn't Toni do to keep Eric? Wasn't marrying him and loving him enough? Didn't the vows say for better or for worse? Even adding a precious baby to the family didn't slow Eric down. How much can one person take to hold onto the love they once shared when things started spiraling out of control? What was Toni to do keep believing in Eric and control her world or take it back and control it herself? You'll decide after you read this book if he was a true keeper or not.

He's A Keeper was my first read by this author. I can honestly say, I was impressed there weren't any grammatical errors, and the plot stayed on track. If you are looking for a fast paced novel this isn't it, the author takes her time and make the reader feel and make you think back to the very first time you were in love until those last bitter days. It also show readers there are consequences in those vows for better or worse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leila is a star on the rise, August 2, 2007

I almost have no words for how good this book is. At first glance, it seems that Toni and Eric are the typical couple. They hold each other down no matter what. They have it all, the house, the money, the kids, and are soon to be married. But one night in Reno changes everything and the story soon takes on an unexpected twist. Trust me, this book will make your jaw drop as Leila Jefferson brings taboo subjects out into the open.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't believe the ride He's a Keeper takes you on, July 29, 2007
This review is from: He's A Keeper (Paperback)
At first thought you think He's a Keeper is a general love story. You go into the lives of Eric and Toni, who seen to live the everyday life as they go through break ups and make ups and finally get married. You think the marriage will be the factor that make this fairy tale relationship last forever but things get more hectic. From problems at work to problems at home, there are times I wondered if the author knew things about my personal life. He's a Keeper is a great read. I suggest it to anyone who is looking for drama, parties, and wild sex along with a few tear jerking moments.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hittin' Switches, August 15, 2007
This review is from: He's A Keeper (Paperback)
It's been nine long years of break ups and make ups in regards to Toni and Eric's relationship. This time, however, Eric takes it a step further and proposes. While Toni never thought marriage was anything more than a piece of paper, she was elated that she would be Mrs. Eric Cummings.

Partners in crime and in love, Toni and Eric decide to jointly add a little flavor to their already fast lives. Soon the young couple find themselves binging completely out on sex, drugs and alcohol. Will marriage adjust the newlyweds latest obstacle or has too much been done to go back?

HE'S A KEEPER by newbie Leila Jefferson is an alluring read rolled with love, stirred with fantasies, topped by sex, laced in drugs and drenched in betrayal. A fresh, new voice in the literary world, I can't wait to read more from Leila.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too wordy!, April 16, 2009
This review is from: He's A Keeper (Paperback)
This book is too wordy. She wrote down every single thing these people did. From waking up one the left side of the bed and looking at the alarm clock, to chewing their food, and how they chewed. How many times she rolled up a blunt or took a cranberry and vodka. Way too many words. About absolutely nothing important. She wrote alot about things (mostly a repeat from previous chapters) then tried to fast forward things. Was not worth the money at all and I am SURPRISED that this book even recieved three or more stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fiyah, April 8, 2009
This review is from: He's A Keeper (Paperback)
After being together on and off for nine years, Eric and his girlfriend, Toni decided it was time to take their relationship to the next level by getting married. Drama, sex, drugs and alcohol, Eric and Toni were living life like rock stars. Leading up to the wedding, Toni makes Eric an proposition no man could turn down, a threesome. After the wedding their reckless lifestyles were to cease and things were to go back to normal, but Eric becomes caught up in the lifestyle. Will Toni be able to salvage her marriage before things get to far out of control?
This book was well written and unpredictable. I would defiantly recommend it to a friend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keep it Coming!, November 29, 2008
This review is from: He's A Keeper (Paperback)
Toni will do anything it takes to keep her man. They've been together forever and she hopes to keep it that way. However Eric has one major indiscretion that Toni is finding it harder and harder to look over, his infidelity. Despite this major hiccup in their relationship Toni wants to make it work. And when Eric comes home to her she believes he's giving it an honest try which is why she will try anything once when it comes to her man. That one time turns into a drug induced, drama filled, roller coaster ride through life and love. When Eric proposes and later introduces Toni to the drug ecstasy she starts to feel her wild side coming out. Soon they become sexually uninhibited having threesomes that turn into swinging marathons. Once married, shortly after Toni gets some life changing news that requires that the couple rethinks their swinging ways. Just when you think this story is about to calm down the storyline escalates into a world wind of passion, deception, pain and oh yes, pleasure!

Will Toni continue to do anything to keep her man regardless of the consequences? Will Eric wake up and see that Toni is truly down for him no matter what? This story line kept me on my toes with intricate plot twist that were the least to be expected. He's a Keeper is a excellent read and precautionary tales to any romantics at heart. Watch out for what you ask for, you just may get it.
