According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 166 children is born with autism. Tenna Merchent is only too familiar with this frightening statistic as she feared her own son might suffer from this devastating disorder.
When her son was born, he seemed healthy. But by the time he was six weeks old, the infant cried for hours each evening if he wasn't constantly nursed. As the months went on, Clay frequently was seriously ill. By the time he was two years old, he could say only a few words, would bang his head for no apparent reason, often walked on his toes, was severely allergic to numerous things, constantly sick, and suffered from nose and chest congestion. He had systemic yeast, was terrified by sudden noises, wouldn't sleep for more than two hours straight, and was unhappy most of the time. All of his symptoms pointed to the possibility of autism. And to make matters worse, Merchent herself became seriously ill.
This book is the moving story of Merchent's remarkable persistence and relentless search for answers and the cure for her son's illness. The book describes her journey through traditional medicine, then the move to alternative care. The miracles begin when she discovers a master herbalist who reveals to her the primary cause of their ill health: aluminum. The simplicity of fully curing both herself and her son is astounding, and she illustrates the art of releasing in detail here. Also included is an invaluable list of remedies for common ailments, as well as a section on resources for herbs and homeopathies.

Alternative care saves a family,
This review is from: He's Not Autistic But...: How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss (Perfect Paperback)
This is the moving story of a mother's desperate attempts to find a cure for her very sick son who she fears is autistic. The fifth medical doctor they see says the boy is "at risk for autism" because of his health problems (severe allergies, chronic yeast, inability to absorb and utilize nutrients...), and his behavioral problems (head banging, toe walking, inability to speak, stimming...).
After being repeatedly disappointed with traditional medical care they go down the alternative health care path. Many practitioners make promises, but nothing helps. Fortunately, they finally meet an herbalist who knows what is causing his problems (aluminum) and how to treat him. His recovery is nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately their journey is not over. He later appears to regress emotionally, becoming neurotically afraid of just about everything. Sensory integration issues, such as hypersensitive hearing, and extreme sensitivity to tactile issues seem to come out of nowhere. Again, all things shared with the autistic spectrum. After suffering for some time, they find that all these new problems are being caused by parasites. After a parasite cleanse, he completely recovers, this time, for good. The book gives specific instructions on how to treat aluminum, yeast and parasites. The mother went on to study with the herbalist who made the boy's recovery possible, and in the appendix she includes the remedies for many other conditions normally considered incurable such as AIDS, Lupus, Crohn's, MS, and cancer, as well as less serious conditions such as acne and endometriosis.

A very insightful and powerful book,
This review is from: He's Not Autistic But...: How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss (Perfect Paperback)
Having grown up in the home of a conventional doctor, it was not easy for me to accept the ideology of alternative medicine. However, having witnessed the remarkable recovery of the author's son, my mindset began to change. Reading this book further helped my husband and I understand more fully the incredible benefits offered by holistic treatments, as well as the potential pitfalls of conventional medicine. It has inspired me to become more open-minded about alternative avenues and, as a result, both we and others we know have personally benefited. We are so thankful for the recovery of the author and her son, for having gained invaluable knowledge about our health, and for the inspiration provided by this book.

This review is from: He's Not Autistic But...: How We Pulled Our Son From the Mouth of the Abyss (Perfect Paperback)
This book is the powerful, compelling account of a determined mother's battle to bring her son from a downward spiral of compounding illnesses back to health. The author herself experiences severe illness during her son's struggle. Merchent is courageous in the personal details she shares. Her turn from conventional to holistic treatments shows the strength of the author's open-mindedness to consider all possibilities, all solutions. To see Merchent journey through the pages of this book from desperation to relief to gratitude for her son's healing and her own is very moving. The power of this mother's faith and the power of her love are deeply inspiring. An empowering book.
