He's No Prince Charming by LuAnn McLane is another sexy southern charm of a story.

Dakota Dunn was America's Teen Pop princess. She had the world at her fingertips and was living the high life. But that was when she was sixteen, now she is 25 and has lost her direction. She heads home to Tenn. back to her families marina and fishing retreat. Dakota is hoping the quiet country setting will rejuvenate her and kick start her song writing.

Trace Coleman a former bull-riding champion who had to retire do to injuries. He has been managing the marina, etc for the Dunn family for the last couple of years. He isn't happy that Dakota Dunn the actual owner is back in town. Trace likes things as they have been, quiet and serene. Dakota Dunn sure isn't either of those things.

Dakota finds herself drawn to sexy Trace. Though he is a brooding man, there is something about him that Dakota finds intriguing. Even when she tries to give Trace some space she finds herself in another pickle that Trace is there again to witness.

Trace has been licking his wounds since his injury. Even his close friends in town haven't been able to get him out of his shell. But this feisty Dakota has him running all over town trying to keep her safe.

He's No Prince Charming is a fun filled sexy ride. Dakota and Trace both have major package to work through but they do it with southern flair. The secondary romance of Grady and Sierra is a delight as well. LuAnn McLane does southern romance with flair and delicious sexy appeal. You can't go wrong with reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Hearts from TRS!, October 26, 2009

"I loved all the aspects of this story. It was truly a great romance, with the imperfect people and the fairy tale romantic sacrifices people make in the name of love. Dakota was such a real personality, with southern charm and genuine niceness even though she left her roots to chase her dream. I loved reading about her life and how she was ready to make changes just for herself for a change. Trace is such a likable hero. He's certainly not perfect and has problems from his own washed up career. Together they teach each about what is really important in life and learn that lesson for themselves as they get to know each other. I really liked how the book was written so we get the perspective from the different characters. Sierra and Grady make great secondary characters and add to the humor of the story. This book made me laugh out loud at the antics, sigh at the intense romance developing between the characters, and warmed my heart at the friendships developing between all of them." - Lisa Freeman

I was very excited to finally receive this book and even put off reading it for a few days to finish the other books i had already to read.. I will definitely try another LuAnn McLane book since I like her, but this book is definitely one you can put down and forget about or choose to never pick up again, although I did finish it after four days of picking it up and putting it back down.. I even chose to watch football over reading this book and that in itself tells you how boring this book was..
I will give it some props though, it started off with so much promise.. It had me laughing out loud the first 50 (give or take a few) pages, until after she first met the other woman in the camp.. After that boring started to set in.. It seemed like even LuAnn wanted the book to end then..
The lead man was disformed due to an accident and seemed like he was going to need some help to come back to the real world and get over thinking he looked like a monster, but no it didn't take but a few pages to recover from that.. Then we have the washed up pop princess who is going to become edgy and pick up her guitar and we are going to get this new edgyness from her, well all I have to say about that is that she's pretty good at procrastinating because I don't remember when that guitar ever came out.. The secondary characters were just as boring in their hookup.. Sienna was just one of the boys till she puts on some makeup then all the sudden her and her crush/badboy Grady are hitting the sheets or I should say trying not to hit the sheets of course..
I don't know what book everyone else read but this was a real snoozer to me.. Even though I will give it a star for making me laugh out loud in the beginning.. Would I recommend this book to others, I would have to say no, wait for her next book and hope she does better..

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, funny and sexy, October 6, 2009
This review is from: He's No Prince Charming (Signet Eclipse) (Mass Market Paperback)
"He's no prince charming" by LuAnn McLane is another hit. It's fun, sexy, full of great characters and just very enjoyable.
Dakota Dunn, former pop princess, is in need of an image remake in order to keep her career alive. So she returns to a marina in Tennessee which she owns and which holds many good childhood memories. There she meets Trace Coleman, a former bull-riding champion who know works for Dakota. The marina is all Trace has after he was badly hurt while bull-riding and he is not really happy to see Dakota because he doesn't want anything to change.
But Dakota is there to stay and work on her career, meaning become more of a country singer. Trace and Dakota are attracted right from the start but both are unsure what to do about it and especially Trace is not ready to get in a relationship.
When Dakota meets Sierra and Grady, two other people who work for her, things get even more interesting and along the journy Dakota not only finds a brooding man to hold one but also great friends and a new career.

LuAnn McLane has become one of my favourite authors and books like "He's no prince charming" are the reason for it.
Dakota and Trace are just great, they had it all (fame, money and so on) but now must build a new life. I love how they both work hard on taking their new chances and the scenes between them are just so good, sexy as hell and funny.
Trace is sort of a wounded hero who needs to learn anew to have fun and let go of all the brooding (I just love these kind of heroes).
Dakota and Sierra help each other a lot and I'm a sucker not only for romaces but also for friendships so I enjoyed reading about them tremendously. Seeing Sierra bloom under Dakotas influence and finally convincing Grady that she is definitely not one of the boys is another highlight of the book. I also love how Dakota learns from Sierra how to be more of a country girl and starts to enjoy life and her work once again.

Hope you'll enjoy "He's no prince charming" just as much as I did and by the way the cover (oh la la) fits the book just perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars LuAnn, loved it!, February 27, 2010
This review is from: He's No Prince Charming (Signet Eclipse) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book moved back a little to the LuAnn that I love. More from the man's point of view, more sexy parts, and just a more well-thought out story. I really enjoyed it! I think it's the best of yours that I've read in a while :) It seems like your writing is marturing and I liked the characters appearing a little more fleshed-out, more real. Thanks! I am looking forward to your next book!

I really loved this book a fun modern southern romance. Dakota Dunn left the south for her music career when she was teenager. She became America's Pop Princess now she is out of money and she is too old to be a teen-Adol. Her agent suggests she go home to Tennessee and working reinventing herself as Country Singer. When she get home to her only asset a fishing camp she find the Ex-bull riding champion hunk Trace Coleman a great inspiration. Fun, romantic, heated, great secondary characters, Enjoy!

If you enjoy this genre I would also suggest; Truly, Madly: A Novel, Falling For Gracie and Red's Hot Honky-Tonk Bar.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun lighthearted frolic, October 11, 2009
This review is from: He's No Prince Charming (Signet Eclipse) (Mass Market Paperback)
At sixteen, Dakota Dunn was America's singing teen sweetheart. Almost a decade later, Dakota is a highlight of where are they now? In fact the answer to that question re Dakota is she is at her marina at Pine Hollow Lake living in a fishing cabin while trying to turn her singing career from teen to adult, but currently battling a killer spider who scares her into screaming.

Former champion bull rider Trace Coleman manages Willow Creek Marina. He is outraged that the owner Dakota Dunn has arrived at the property she owns. He wants her to leave because he is tired of rescuing her from tiny spiders and other dangers; as HE'S NO PRINCE CHARMING. However, mostly he hates how he feels about Dakota Dunn.

This is a fun lighthearted frolic with a secondary romance enhancing the prime relationship of a "chivalrous" hermit constantly rescuing his lady in distress. This is an amusing tale, starting with the killer spider crawling down Dakota's back. Fans will enjoy the romantic antics between America's former teen pop star royalty and her Prince Charming in denial whose song list is I'm Not In Love and Hit the Road, Jill.

He's No Prince Charming by LuAnn McLane
Release Date: October 6, 2009
Rating: 4.75 out of 5.00

Trace Coleman has felt the joy of being on top of his sport - competitive bull riding. Unfortunately, just as like the last bull threw him to the ground, Trace's career has fallen into the dirt. Battered and scarred from his last tango with a bull, Trace has left the sport he loves and is currently the manager of the local marina on Pine Hollow Lake. Content to be out of the spotlight and the prying eyes of the fans, Trace has settled into his quiet country life only to have his world set on its end when Dakota Dunn, the owner of the marina, comes blowing into town.

Teen pop princess Dakota Dunn has outgrown her teen image. With her songs missing the charts entirely, her management team has advised her to "sex up" her image and think about country music. Leaving the glitz and glamour of Hollywood behind, Dakota heads to her family cabin on Pine Hollow Lake in the hills of Tennessee. Praying the seclusion of her Southern hometown can help Dakota find her new image and figure out just who Dakota Dunn really is. Maybe, just maybe one tall, strapping, and scarred cowboy can help her.

From the very first scene in the book, I was hooked. Dakota finds herself in a dusty, dirty old cabin. As she walks through the front door, she is greeted by the film of a spider's web. Scared to death of creepy crawlers of any kind, Dakota quickly swipes away the web and then just as quickly wonders where the spider is now located. Totally freaked out to find the big, black spider on her back, Dakota frantically pulls off her shirt and screams at the top of her lungs. This is how Trace first meets Dakota, and thus the journey to love begins. What a funny and touching journey it is!

Dakota and Trace are two people who have been the best in their respective fields and who have felt the blow of fate when their careers have coming crashing down around them. I found it intriguing that both characters lacked a certain amount of self confidence in one aspect of their lives even though both of them had been the best of their fields at one point. But when you find someone to love you unconditionally and you see their confidence in you, your own self confidence grows by leaps and bounds. This is what happens with Dakota, but more so with Trace. Trace is a man who wants to be needed without being asked, as you can tell by this quote from the book.

"When was the last time someone needed him? God, how he wanted to be valued, to be desired, and to be missed when he was gone. When his bull riding days ended so abruptly, it was as if his personal stock plummeted and he became worthless. And although Trace loved the sport and missed the glory, he wanted to be respected for more than his ability to ride a bucking bull for the required eight seconds."

LuAnn McLane is a master at creating sensitive love stories while intertwining humorous threads throughout her novels. I literally found myself laughing on one page and sighing on the next page. Ms. McLane is a puppet master who plucks my strings with every chapter and every little detail. I really enjoyed the chapter titles at the beginning of each chapter - such as Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Slip Slidin' Away, and In the Still of the Night. These small, seeming insignificant titles added to my overall pleasure of reading this novel.

I have heard LuAnn McLane's novels described as Southern fried romance, and I would have to agree. Her novels bring to mind a yummy, country fair funnel cake. Sweet, sinful, and utterly satisfying!

I highly recommend this novel for one and all. It is a great pleasure read that will have you smiling throughout and leave with a satisfied sigh.

This is my first book by LuAnn McLane, and it's definitely going on my keeper shelf! The romance between Dakota and Trace was sweet, funny, and HOT! I loved that there was also so much humor in the story, from Trace & Dakota and also from the secondary characters. I will admit that Dakota's accident-prone ways seemed a little contrived after a while, but I still found it to be a cute aspect of the story. And I loved how she started to bring Trace back to life, figuratively speaking. It was fun and touching to see how his personality was drawn out, with the help of Sierra and Grady. The story absolutely sped by, and I finished within a couple of days! I heartily recommend He's No Prince Charming, and I'll definitely be looking to read other LuAnn McLane books soon!
