To say that this is a book of gorgeous photographs by a talented artist would be accurate but not remotely adequate. Combining family pictures, letters, interviews and additional photographs, Lutz has created a work that is stunningly intimate but also amazingly universal. Hesitating Beauty tells a very specific story while allowing the reader to examine their own opinions and feeling about mental illness, the bonds of family, the stories we tell and the stories we remember. To spend time with this book is to explore the journey we all take through this world.

Mr. Lutz depicts full stories in each photograph. Although a quick read, you find yourself stopping longer to soak it all in. I am excited for more.

I love this project. However, I don't think Joshua Lutz's work is presented as well as it could be here. The book is inexpensive, which is nice, and it's small, which suits the images nicely, but I found the quality of the printing to be disappointing. I actually prefer looking at the work online, to viewing it in book form. Oh well.
