Editorial Reviews

Forget everything you learned in history class, and imagine all the nations of the world as cute guys hanging out on a wildly inappropriate reality show. Now, toss in every stereotype ever and prepare to pledge allegiance to your favorite superpower in Hetalia Axis Powers!

Maybe you’ll surrender to Italy’s charms. He’s a sweetie who’s always got a noodle in his mouth, and he’s BFF with blue-eyed Germany and shy Japan. Sounds nice, right? Of course, their friendship sort of causes World War II, but is that really such a big deal? Not if it means those adorable allies France, America, and England will be stormin’ the beach! No matter who comes out on top, victory is yours! Now ditch your textbooks and try to keep up, because history happens fast in Hetalia Axis Powers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great show. August 5, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I absolutely love the humor in Hetalia. I was very excited to purchase this item. One thing, though, is that under the language in the Amazon info, it says it's only language is Japanese, and the subs are in English. I almost tried to cancel my purchase because of this, but thank God it was too late to cancel it, because it turned out to be that it was in English as well. I think someone should change that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hetalia has forever jaded my view of history. November 30, 2010
By Al
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've always liked history, don't get me wrong, and I even used to picture historical situations like Hetalia has portrayed them in my head during class. But when Hetalia came out, it was just amazing. I enjoy this show very much. I even once showed my sister it. And she aced a test on some part of history. She came home saying, "DUDE. I passed my history test." Note: She sucks at history like whoa.

Good show, hilarious, and always fun to watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars funny non fiction December 25, 2010
By May
Format:DVD
this anime was amazing, funny, helpful! makes important events easer to remember like the Suez crisis and who where the allies and the axis powers during the war, german reparations, france never wining a war, russias large crushing power and thats only half of it! Plus it depicts the countries as people spot on<France is the sultry sexy type super fabulous,Russia tall with a cute cover up but a evil core, germany serious hard working, america (and i quote)"Im the hero!" and italy the hyper pizza and pasta lover. This is a great gift for any history nut or lovers of anime but warning not for children this is war and in war, comes few bad words

5.0 out of 5 stars What our country needs is historical knowledge December 4, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I think it is excellent that historical events and relationships are so candidly displayed using anime. The author has a Japanese take on history, but that is good because we need to see how history is seen from another point of view. In our case (the US) we get very little of World history from our educational institutions, and when we do get some, it is narcissistic and focused on how everybody relates to us, never how they relate to each other. Don't get me wrong, I am a very pro-American conservative, but if we are ever going to make our case, we have to know the full detail of what has happenned in history and what peeve others have with us. My daughter asked us for the Hetalia videos and I am very glad that I bought them for her. It has helped me get her very advanced in the history of power plays in the World. And even though I thought I was well taught in these events, it still taught me a thing or two that I had not known at 57 years of age. I highly recommend these videos.

So if you've seen season 1 of Hetalia: Axis Powers you probaly think it can't get any better, right? Well, it did! This show has only helped me in the classroom! Its so funny, it makes me want to learn about history! Learning history with Hetalia is as easy as poping in a dvd in to your dvd player! Then just sit back and enjoy the ride! This show makes me so much smarter I freaked! I just love this show I just can't seem to get enough of it! Love it! :) <3

5.0 out of 5 stars A Continuation of the Gag Series February 26, 2013
Format:DVD
Here comes season 2 and like the cover suggests, focuses more on the Allied Nations America, England/Britain, Russia, France and China. This season is all over the place in comparison to season 1 jumping from the modern era and the past constantly. Fortunately the narrator does bring up the timeline when brought up and you can tell what timeline a character is in this season by the way they dress or the way they act.

Only 2 episodes are considered serious in this season while the rest are gags and cute moments. If I were to name the main timelines it were to jump, it would be WWII, the 12-15th century (I have no idea but it's when England first takes America as his little brother) and mainly the modern era.

This season introduces new nations such as Greece (who appears more in season 3), Belarus and Ukraine as well as explaining Switzerland and Liechtenstein's backstory as well as expanding on the tragic relationship that America and England had (it was elaborated on in season 1 but with flashbacks of when America is a kid continues to explain how they were before the American Revolution episodes).

Another good season and given it's cheap with another 26 episodes, its worth the buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny November 12, 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
very short eps which was kinda a downer, but none are dull. Very, VERY stereotyping, But thats what makes the show the best. Even comes with a bandana, which i thought was so cute, I wasnt expecting that. In all if you like offensive and random things, then this is a must XD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Great November 5, 2010

Just as satisfing as the first season. I have never once been disappointed with this series! It's so cute and funny, but as one reviewer said if you're sensitive to stereotypes don't watch. Just an all around fun anime.

hetalia season 2
I'm pretty sure it is. Season 1 had the English dub track, along with the Japanese as separate.

Hetalia white movies
Axis powers hetalia? Sure, it would be appropriate for a 14 year old. There's some cuss words (but it is not that bad) and a couple dirty jokes (but again, they're not that bad).
