5.0 out of 5 stars A great value! Works beautifully
I'm not at all sure what you would gain by buying one of these pans at five times the price of this one (and there are some). This one works just the way I want. It browns beautifully with out sticking and you can still deglaze a bit after for soups, stews, etc. It cleans up easily, the lid fits well...not sure just what you would get for more money spent.
It is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Pot Luckless
Purchased at $40, took a chance at such a cheap price, got what I paid for. Heavy, nice outside finish, perfect size. Inside, is where I am disappointed, plastic handle held on by exposed metal screw, white enamel very thin and chipping and bubbling, not a smooth finish or thick, you can see the cast iron through the white enamel, rim on top of post of exposed cast iron...

It is very heavy...you must use caution on a glass cook top to lift it as you move it...I'm sure a more expensive one would be the same.
I am very happy with it. And I am not a bit shy about writing a bad review when I am not. Love this pan!

Is it worth $40, yes, will it last a two years, I doubt it.

1.0 out of 5 stars CHIPS IN MY TACO SAUCE, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Heuck 33030 Porcelain Enamel Cast Iron 5 Quart Dutch Oven, Red (Kitchen)
This is only my second time cooking in this pot; I'm preparing homemade Taco Sauce for the D.A.V. Suddenly, I realize that I hear a "scraping' sound on the bottom; my worst fears are realized; I dumped the sauce into my S/S pot, and there it was: A HUGE AREA WHEN THE ENAMEL CAME OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE DUTCH OVEN AND IT IS NOW INTEGRATED INTO MY TACO SAUCE. NOT GOOD NEWS; WHAT TO DO? NEEDS TO GO BACK; THIS IS NOT WORTH 40.00; NOT FOR ONLY 2 USES; I THOUGHT I'D HAVE THIS FOR YEARS AND YEARS; AFTER ALL, IT'S "ENAMEL OVER CAST IRON", RIGHT I AM SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED IN THE ABSENCE OF QUALITY IN THIS POT; USUALLY I ONLY USE STAINLESS STEEL, BUT I THOUGHT I'D GIVE THIS A TRY; WELL, NO MORE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it, love it, love it!, November 3, 2008

Outstanding product; the other reviewer helped me make up my mind to purchase. Have used it at least 3 times each week since it arrived! Why not 5 stars? Directions say no dishwasher - so for now I'm following instructions. It cleans easily, I just hate washing dishes! Would definately recommend for anyone who enjoys cooking.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real bargain, December 24, 2008

I ordered this dutch oven because I already have an 11 quart Le Creuset dutch oven and it's too big to use for everything. The 5 quart size is perfect for pot roasts and smaller batches of sauces or stews. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and heavy weight of the item for the price (and free shipping). I've been hesitant to purchase enamel cast iron pieces other than Le Creuset, but this piece performs just fine and cleans up beautifully. It's a very nice shade of deep red - not garish or cheap looking. It's nice and deep and great for soups. So far, I can't find any fault with it at all...gave it 4 stars because I haven't had it very long and we'll see how it stands up over the next year or two.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this item!!!!!, December 28, 2009

The first dutch oven we received had a rounded bottom, which would made it difficult to brown and cook food evenly. We called the company and they were glad to send another dutch oven at no additional cost. The first time we used the replacement dutch oven preparing Lamb Shanks, we placed the dutch oven in the oven. To our suprise, the handle on the top of the lid blistered. The handle is not oven proof. After having two problems with this item, I feel the quality control of this company is greatly lacking. I did not spend 70 plus dollars on an item lightly and expect the item to hold up for more than one use. My old dutch oven that I am replacing is over 20 years old and is just starting to show the wear it has received over the years.

The description said that the pot could be used on top of the stove or in the oven. I have used it on top several times and obtained satisfactory results. I used it for the first time in a 350 degree oven (about four months after purchase) and obtained satisfactory cooking results, but now the lid looks horrible because the black knob is deformed with heat bubbles and the mounting screw has loosened the knob from the lid.

I suppose it may be helpful to either remove the knob or wrap it in foil for use in the oven.

Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my husband. He has used it several times already and absolutely loves it. Definitely a great product for a better price than some of the other "name-brands."

Cooks like a dream. Makes the best pot pies ever. Great for cobblers also. I love the flexability of this pot. If you can dream it , you can cook it in this bad boy. Super easy to clean and very durable. Definately my go to pot for cooking at my house.
