I grew up in Switzerland but now live in South Africa where you won't find Peter Maffay in a CD shop. This was annoying since one of his great hits (Ueber sieben Bruecken musst Du gehn) was haunting me. So when I was in Switzerland recently, I decided to check PM out thoroughly. I came to the conclusion that most of the material he produced in 30 years is quite cheesy, although his voice is appealing, and that there were a few gems that I just had to have. The CD under review offers exactly what I wanted. Here PM has re-recorded his greatest hits in the year 2000 with a more rocking band, yet his distinctive voice is never drowned. Among the 15 tracks only tracks 6 to 8 are somewhat weaker in my opinion. The rest is great, including the jewels So bist Du, Und es war Sommer (originally Millie Jackson I think, but great cover version), Ueber sieben Bruecken, Tiefer.
