Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

If the 14GB drive offers more capacity than you need, look to the Colorado 4GB (8 GB with compression) drive for your data protection needs. It's easy to install, easy to use, and easy to maintain. With the ability to backup 4GB in less than an hour, these drives are fast! This drive features Install Assistant that makes installing your drive a breeze. The software automatically detects your system configuration and gives you step-by-step instructions for installing your drive. The Colorado 4GB lets you choose between One-Button Backup or automatic daily backup. You can push a button and go to lunch, or schedule your backup for the same time every day. Either way, all the data on your PC-including system software and office applications-will be backed up on a single data cartridge (with typical data compression). All HP Colorado drives use affordable data cartridges making it economical for you to buy several cartridges and backup on a rotational basis.

I ordered this drive on a Saturday from Amazon and received it on the following Tuesday...that's service. Anyway, I paid almost no attention to the installation instructions and it installed fine anyway. Backups go off without a hitch. It seems to be a bit slower than advertised...takes me about 35 minutes to back up 1.6 GB.

Great Product and great service

3.0 out of 5 stars Will not work with Windows XP, no 'patch' available, February 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Hewlett Packard C4388B Colorado External Tape Drive (Personal Computers)
This product will not work with Windows XP. I've contacted HP and they referred me to their third party software development company for an update to the software. The third party software company does not respond to my e-mail inquiry when the upgrade will be ready. According to HP representative, HP had expected the upgrade to be available by Christmas, 2001.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy HP tape drives, July 18, 2001

I've had one of these for a while now. It's broken 2 tapes. It regularly fails to complete a backup due to errors. The backup software is not compatible with Windows ME and to use 98 they recommended I pay another $30 for an upgrade. It you plan on keeping data backed-up for a while, I wouldn't use HPs.

Of course I have a used one for sale, if you're looking for one.
