This was first CD-RW drive, I had read favorable reviews of the 8200 and 9100 and figured the 8250i would be on par. The contents of package were slim to say the least. The "manual" was a couple of black and white sheets that loooked like a quick Xerox, there was no audio cable, no screws to mount the drive and one CD-R (no CD-RW was included.) Installation was easy and the drive was ready to go in minutes. I tried copying an Audio CD at 4x. The software reported the disc creation was successful. The result though was terrible, skips and jumps - totally useless. I tried another one at 2x and worked fine. I then tried copying a couple program disks, both ended up no good. Also, one time after inserting one of the copied data disks in the 8250i, the drives light blinked non-stop and the computer froze up. I've since discovered that the other HP drives in these 8000 and 9000 series are made by Sony, but the 8250i is made by Philips. I exchanged the 8250i for the 9110i which records at up to 8x. The packaging looked professional, there was included audio cable, screws, 2 sample disks, more software and a label maker. I just completed copying an audio CD at 4x and results were perfect.

This drive took me about 10 minutes to install, including the time spent shutting down, rebooting, and so on. It was a breeze. Their software looks at your system first and gives dummy-proof instructions on how to set the jumper, how to hook up the IDE cables, etc.

The software is good, not incredible, but it works fine. Hardware is fast, quiet and reliable.

My only complaint was that there was not a cable included to hook the drive directly to my sound card, but that was a minor inconvenience (and since I already have another CD drive wired that way, I might not have been able to use it anyway). The instructions implied that the cord should have been provided.

The drive was easy to install and run. This drive was one of the easiest drives to install that I have ever seen. I have been working on computers for about 1 year and over that time the drive that I sugested my coustomers bought was a HP. This is because I found out that Hp takes the time to make there products fool-proof even if the person putting them in has never done it before. Also before I started putting in HP's a RW drive would take about one to two hours to install but since I now do HP's it takes ten to twenty min. This is the best product that HP could have made. This cuts my time to about a fourth what it use to. Thanx HP. I couldn't have done it with out you.

When I received the CD-Writer Plus for Christmas, I was nervous that I'd ever get it installed and working. As a result, it sat in the box for 6 weeks after Christmas. I needn't have worried. It was a breeze to install, and it has the most intuitive software interface I've ever used. Bravo, H-P!

The install for this CD-RW was a breeze. It worked well with my hardware and the software/drivers were simple to install, and that's not common with my NT4.0 machine. The drive burns fast and I haven't had a coaster yet.

This was by far the easiest install I have ever seen. I was prepared for an all nighter to fix the glitches but there were none. It took about 30 minutes from the time I opened the box to working the device. The manual was easy to use but wasn't really needed. Way to go HP.

I have worked with computers for many years and I must say this was one of the toughest installations I've ever had to deal with. So if your not very familiar with installing hardware you might want to leave it to the pros to install. Comes with a thin instruction manual which tells you not much more than to go to hp.com (Hewlett Packard's web site). Also, it has a mediocore software suite. You used to an excellent software suite a while back when buying an HP product. Other than the above, this cd- writer has excellent speeds for a price you can't beat.

I have just bought and installed the 8250I internal CDR-W drive. It was the easiest hardware install I have done in ages. The software bundle works really well also. All in all a brainless set-up. I like the perfornace and ease of use so much I had a family member purchase the same drive. No problems! I recommend it!

Well what can i say! the installation was a breeeze, the running of the thing wasn't :( I could make music cd's without getting one coaster, but backing up other stuff was a nightmare. The software didnt install correctly and it turns out my windows 98 was duff! After installing win98 SE everything came to life and now im backing up everything without problems. Also the box says my drive is 4x4x24 2mb buffer but the markings on the unit say its a 4x4x32 4mb buffer and it was made last month? is this a new revision of this model?

i recently bought this HP writer and i am very pleased with it. It only took about 10 minutes to install, including rebooting, etc. My computer which is almost 2 years old had no problems with the new hardware. It takes some practice getting used to the software, as it would to get used to any writer, but I put it to the test and wrote a 74 minute sequence of music to a 74 minute cd-r using a mix of mp3 and cd music and the whole thing recorded perfectly, i have had no problems. It writes at a medium speed with excellent quality and very good for the price. The software cant convert mp3 to wav, but its easy to find a mp3 converter. Also, mine did not include an audio cable to hook up to my sound board like the instructions said it would, but that wasnt much of a problem because i already have my main cd rom hooked up to my sound board. But overall its a great writer for a great price, and ive been into computers for a long time now and have looked at cd writers for a long time and i reccomend this one.
