The unit accepts paper from the front in a horizontal input tray and uses a U-shaped paper path to eject the prints directly above the input stock. As on all of HP's ink jets, the 2000Cse has retracting paper supports on each side that gently drop the prints into the tray.
The 2000Cse uses a four-color ink configuration so you can replace the individual colors as they run out; however, it combines individual print heads for each color and separate ink cartridges for longer life between consumable replacements. The ink cartridges and print heads are designed not to drip--a major plus for a model with replaceable ink reservoirs.
Aside from installing the ink cartridges and print heads, the only assembly required is the output tray--a piece that slides easily in the front of the printer. This tray conveniently tilts and locks in an upward position to let you change the paper below. The output tray also sports a slot to accept envelopes and special media.
The DeskJet 2000Cse prints black text up to 600 dpi. Black-text printing was superb--solid black areas were extremely dense and consistent with smooth edges. HP produces its color using the company's Photo REt II technology, which makes resolution less important. Photo REt II blends colors and varies the amount of ink delivered, increasing the number of colors that can be placed on any particular dot. (Hewlett-Packard claims that ink drops are 70 percent smaller than previous models and that 16 drops can be placed on any particular dot on the page.) We were quite impressed with the even, photographic quality of the 2000Cse's printouts--colors were vivid, and the image quality was top notch.
The printer driver supports tablet, book, and poster printing and lets you quickly choose between Best, Normal, and EconoFast quality modes. The company's ColorSmart II technology matches the color settings to the type of document you're printing, eliminating the need to choose a document type in the driver. This driver doesn't provide much in the way of printer-status indicators; there is no graphical depiction of the printer in the standard driver dialog. However, there is a troubleshooting feature that offers solutions if you have problems. The DeskJet 2000Cse also comes with a great suite of software applications to help you manage your printing tasks.

Excellent printer, speedy text and outstanding graphics,
By A Customer

My experience couldn't be more different from the first reviewers. My HP 2000 worked great right out of the box. It is quiet and very fast. I decided to spend more money for the speed and have not regretted it. I've especially been pleased with the quality of photos. Using high quality inkjet paper or one of the special photo papers, the quality of the printing is excellent. I'm interested now to compare it with the recent Epson 1200 which is getting rave reviews for its photo-printing quality. The HP 2000 combines speed and excellent quality in printing text and photos both. I've printed numerous "test prints" in computer stores and many of them produce good looking results. But as the price drops, the print job takes noticably longer. I've not regretted the money I spent. Also, this printer has four separate ink cartridges (black, yellow, cyan, magenta) which is a plus as the colors can be replaced individually. With most color printers, the color inks are in one cartridge which must be replaced when the first color is depleted.

Perfect for the small office,

This printer is perfect for small offices. If you want the versatility of color and the speed of a laser, this is the one you want. It prints at 10 ppm in black and has great quality. HP printers are notorious for being loud, but this one is not bad at all. The ink cartridges are a little higher than others, but each color has it own cartridge. A good buy vs. an expensive professional model laser.

Worth The Difference,

You can see and feel the quality of this proffessional series printer right out of the box. I strongly reccomend that you purchase the proper printer cable when you acquire the printer. You need a bi-directional cable to allow for the full capabilities. If you don't have one, it is a simple matter of on screen programming to set up it's use. Also, make sure you install the correct driver for your OS, drivers are available at the HP web site. This being said, you will notice the difference in quality immediately. Sharp vibrant colors and smooth delivery. This really is a top notch product. The ink delivery system demonstrated a marked improvement in smudging and running compared to other HP models, and the results remain consistent. While the target market is the small business user, I really feel this model offers a lot for the home business and home user as well. For just a little more investment you can be printing out high quality invitations, reports, flyers and more. This is also the perfect printer for the home grown photographer to make photo copies for the family. The unit works on many different media formats including transparancies. In fact, if you forget to change the settings when using transparancies the unit detects the media itself! I reccommend the 2000 series proffessional ink jet very highly. Normally you would have to spend a great deal more to get into this quality range. Color laser printers cost thousands of dollars, not including maintanace. The 2000 series offers a genuine alternative for the home and business user with laser like quality.
