Last fall I bought a digital camera and I have been moderately satisfied with the photo output of my Lexmark Z23. I could see some room for improvement so I decided to buy a photo quality printer. I agonized for the past two months...looked at every review I could on the internet...visited all the local electronic dealers....even ran into several manufacturer reps at these stores. At the end of the day, I was confused with all the claims and counter-claims...I vacilated among Canon, HP and Epson and could not make up my mind. I finally decided to go with the HP 960Cse because I have always used them at work and they have been reliable workhorses. I have had this printer for a week now and am EXTREMELY satisifed with the photo results. I am using the HP glossy 4x6 and their 11.5 x 8 photo paper with the matte finish. The text quality,of course,is superb. I should have known after all these years using HP printers without any problems (I probably use a ream of paper a week)that this was a good choice for my photo needs as well.

This is an amazingly precise printer, producing remarkably clear photos. Beisdes the great quality of its printing, the DeskJet 960cse is remarkably fast. With an output of 15 pages per minute, printing long documents is a pleasure.

The quality on plain paper is outstanding. The output on photo glossy was WOW! HP has done an outstanding job in making this printer very user friendly. It was very easy to set up and get going on my Mac.

I've had mine for about 4 months now, and as a computer professional, it's only flaw is the software installation. It seems like HP printers software is very touchy as to the proper installation. Especially USB! (I have had to repair 5 installs of various HP printers, all USB, in the last 9 months) But once you get the software right, you have a super printer at a very good price. Love the quality of the photos, with photo paper, make sure you take advantage of the various settings on the printer to adjust for the paper. Speed is very good. Get the software right and you will be very happy

Bought 960cse printer before reading reviews. Thought about returning it before opening it but didn't. Never had a bad HP printer. Finally installed it and...the thing works fine! It did drag two photo papers at once through it but my regular paper works just fine. Just riffle the pages before loading the paper tray. Print quality is good. It did return a message that black ink cartridge was installed improperly. Re-installed it several times and still got messages. Friend told me same story (another model) and that it would correct itself. That it did, message is gone. So...so far, so good. If you get a chance to buy it cheap, don't hesitate. (My unit was assymbled in Mexico; others in Malaysia so quality may differ...I wanted a USA product but, Oh, Well!)

My old 820 hp printer finally died and I went for the 960cse because I could use the same black ink cartridge. The 940 only uses a 15ml cartridge and it costs the same. This is one fine printer, fast, very clear print, and excellent picture quality. You can't beat HP printers and this is one of the best! Far better than anything Epson offers. I can use the econo mode and still get excellent print. I'm an HP fan forever!

I love this printer. The output is excellent in black and in color. The noise is soft and muffled and it doesn't bang against the sides of the printer. Setup was easy and changing the ink is intuitive. There are 3 big reasons why I chose this printer over it's competition: (1) with an optional duplex unit , it can print 2-sided, (2) the black ink it uses is #45 ... Older HP inkjets seem to use #15 like it's sibling 940c, and (3) HP's reputation for highly reliable and high quality printers.

The duplex unit is so awesome and has been working without the slightest problem. Normally if you print for example a document with 10 pages, the HP printer prints out the first page face up and then prints the next page on top of it face up etc ... After printing you end up having to sort the pages so page 1 is the first page. With duplex printing, the first page faces down, the 3rd page on top of it faces down, etc ... so after printing the pages are all sorted already. Very convenient. I recommend buying a duplex unit with this printer. I try to conserve ink by doing most of my printing in Draft mode ... the quality is still highly acceptable for documents that don't have many small details.

I love the speed and clear print that it does,but I would not use it as a photo printer. I had bought it for photo printing but I am very unsatisfied with that part of it. It leaves lines going from top to bottom of prints, about five off them. I had exchanged it for another one but it did the same thing.

I have owned many HP printers over the years and have been generally happy with their performance. However, the 960C is a different beast. I have tried two 960C HP printers and both are substandard. The first would not feed paper at all. The second folds, rips and otherwise damages paper every few print jobs. It cannot print envelopes at all without jamming. Although the print quality is good, I am returning this printer to the seller. The frustrations of clearing the paper feeder several times each day are not worth it! I advise against purchasing this particular printer.

I use this printer with a G4 running OS 10.1. The printer runs slower than advertised due to the operating system, but the quality is fantastic. Pictures printed on photo paper are stunning. If you aren't interested in speed, I think it is a good, quality product.
