1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy!, March 21, 2010
This review is from: Hewlett-Packard PRINTER, PHOTO, PS C8180 (Personal Computers)
I received a HP photosmart c8180 all-in-one printer as a Christmas present in December 2008. It will be the last HP product I, or any member of my family ever buy, and here is why.

Within three months of the end of it's warranty, it began behaving erratically and within a week, no longer would function. The HP on-line support center advised me as to how to reset it, but when that failed, their subsequent response was to offer me only a $50 rebate on a new printer.... HP offers no repair service. Trying to protect the ~$100 invested in spare ink cartridges and HP photopaper, I took it to Best Buy (where it had been purchased for ~$350) to seek diagnosis and repair. They informed me it was one of the few HP products their service center would not even accept to evaluate for repairs!! I then took it to a local independent computer repair business and paid them $30 to evaluate the problem. They found that the mother board had been damaged where the power adapter plugs directly into it, projecting out about an inch beyond the back of the unit. Such a vulnerable, obvious design/engineering flaw is inexcusable, not to mention the absence of meaningful product support. This experience destroyed my confidence in the quality of HP products. I replaced it with a Canon MP 990, receiving a $100 rebate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Loud but prints nice pics, May 18, 2009
This review is from: Hewlett-Packard PRINTER, PHOTO, PS C8180 (Personal Computers)
I upgraded a HP All In One Printer to this one. I liked the feature of the direct DVD burner. This All in One doesn't have a fax feature, so I am not sure why it's called an All in one. The printer seems a lot louder then the 5 year old HP All in one that I replaced. The scanner sounds like it is struggling to move across the product. I am hoping it lasts as long as my old one did. I have been very fond of HP products.

The Printer Broke in only 9 months, HP won't honor the warrenty, they only want to sell me another one. I typed "company won't honor warranty" in yahoo browser and found many complaints on HP for this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective printer software, October 24, 2010

This review is from: Hewlett-Packard PRINTER, PHOTO, PS C8180 (Personal Computers)
I have had this printer for a couple of years and prior to the software fiasco it operated as expected. When I upgraded my Microsoft Internet Explorer to version 8, I assumed the printer software (HP Director) would continue to operated as before. Not! HP has no fix for the elimination of the HP Director software so must set up the printer each time I print anything (ie. go to properties and select the appropriate options).

No one at HP or on the web has been able to fix this problem with a software patch. HP's on line help is no help at all. Their telephone support wants me to pay to talk to them about a problem created because HP doesn't want to create a patch for this problem. Customers who own hp printers know about the "This application has failed to start because libexpatw.dll was not found" Reinstalling the application does not correct the problem.

The Photosmart C8180 is an expensive printer. This will probably be the last HP printer I ever buy. I have been an HP customer for a long time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Copy on glass has 'fogged' black lines throughout, November 16, 2009
This review is from: Hewlett-Packard PRINTER, PHOTO, PS C8180 (Personal Computers)
I just purchased this printer yesterday at Costco. Purchase because had a 'stock' of 02 Ink from a C6150 that died. Wasn't crazy about the non-fax capability; how is this All-in-one? Printing is flawless BUT if you need to copy on glass, good luck. Quality is washed-out with black 'fogged' lines running lengthwise for 1/3 of page. Perhaps mine is just a lemon. Will be returning.
