worked well for me,

Printing from photoshop elements 3 (both the organizer portion and the editing portion) produced an image that was very close to the screen colors of my calibrated screen. I'm using a laptop which I calibrated with photocal. I chose the correct paper and ink setup in the driver AND made sure to go into printer properties and select for the application to manage color. The prints matched the screen...no problem.(including skintones) The cartridge also includes a plastic cover to cover up the nozzle when you store it. So you can change out cartridges all you want, just put the cover on it and things will be fine. Now, to the negatives....the cartridge is small, and the default driver setting is for something called colorsmart color matching. ugh....hideous. Set it for the program to handle it instead. I have no idea how many 8x10 prints I'll get out of this cart, but I've printed about 20 so far today. FWIW, I didn't use HP's image editing software since I own elements. These settings worked like a champ in elements, but I have no idea about how other programs will work. This was also with a hp2710 all in one printer.

Poor reproduction of flesh tones with this cartridge,

I was unhappy with the results with the 'six color' printing that occurs when you swap this cartridge for the no. 94 (black) cartridge. I put this in my machine (HP6210) and printed a test on HP paper. I printed a second picture when a put the no. 94 cartridge back (in effect making it a 'four color' device, which is what you would normally have in the printer). The same picture looked better when printed with the four colors. Most notable were the flesh tones-MUCH more lifelike. I would hold off on spending $24 for one of these, primarily because the result is not worth it, but also because the manner which HP designs the ink set-up. It's kind of a nuisance to have to swap out the black cartridge, because if you forget to put it back, you'll end up with a very high cost-per-page for regular printing of documents.

A helpful option for photo printing,

Just bought one of these to try out for photo printing with an HP 5740 that came bundled with my computer a few years ago.Printing from RAW (NEF actually) files with a 96 and 97 combination gave me skin tones that were too heavily red saturated. This is less of an issue with JPEG files. I generally had to go into the levels tool in Photoshop and pull back the reds some for most portraits. Not so with the 99 cartridge in place. We'll see how many prints I can squeeze out of one of these. Frankly I see this as a stop gap solution for photo printing. Printers that use multicolor ink cartridges waste a lot of ink when used as dedicated photo printers. As soon as I can put together the dough I plan to add an Epson 2400 and use it strictly for photography. Ink will never be cheap but at least when I run out of red I won't be throwing away what's left of two other colors. Still this does expand the usefulness of compatible HP printers.

Great price, fast delivery and on time. Great reseller - I'll be back for more when I need additional ink. I am phasing out HP printers due to operation costs, however for less expensive ink, this is a great bargain.

HP cartridges are the way to go. The only downfall is that if you decide to purchase a cartridge when you DON'T need it, chances are that by the time you use this product, the cartridge itself may not work in your printer (say three months from the day of purchase).HP is awesome about cartridge replacement. So if it takes a dump, call HP!

I was quite happy with the color prints from my HP 6940 Printer. I decided to try this ink package which replaces the BLACK ink cartridge in my printer. Using photo glossy paper there was a noticeable difference especially in people pictures.I did a side by side print job and was happy with the picture using the normal cartridge set up but was 'happier' when I used this new cartridge. $16 with free shipping from the CARTRIDGEWAREHOUSE Via Amazon. I know it's another cartridge with three colors of ink that will be useless if any of the 3 colors are used up but I wanted to try it. The HP #99 cartridge does make a big difference on flesh (less red) and more vivid color on a yellow dandelion before I ripped it up by the roots. Is it worth it? I can't say. Depends how picky you are. There is a larger difference between types of paper when making photos but it is better with this cartridge. Curious to see if recycled refills will be available... Happy :-)

I love to scrapbook and I like to print the pictures from my computer. I have an HP PSC 2355 and had been using the traditional inks. I was skeptical that it would make a difference, but I as much as I spend on other scrapbooking items I thought it was worth a shot.I was really pleased with the results. One thing I had to learn the hard way, USE HIGH QUALITY PAPER!!! Now I use HP Premium Plus photo paper. Printing pictures from your home computer is one of the areas where the additional money is worth it.

Offensive HP product strategy. Overpriced Ink and HP Paper. Color Fades.,

I am a very experienced color printer who uses a large-format Epson pigment printer for my photography. I bought an HP 9980 Deskjet for document printing and desktop photo proofing. This inkset gives acceptable, if not great, photo reproduction with HP papers that are profiled for this printer. I am very unhappy, however, that I have not found any icc profiles which wold enable me to make photo-quality prints using other brands of paper with this inkset. The HP 9980 printer was ridiculously inexpensive but the HP inks and papers are richly-priced for the captive market and come to nearly $2 per 8.5/11 photo print. ADDED 4 months later: I have had several photo prints on display in a brightly lit room with no direct sunlight for several months. The color has shifted badly to a greenish tint in the neutral density tones from middle gray to near-white (zones 5-9) Conclusion: This is worthless as a photo printer and you'll find much better alternatives for document printing. I expected better from HP. I'd change to one star if Amazon would let me edit that part of the review.

I was a little worried that with the price being lower than some are charging for refills, this was going to be a knock off product. The cartridges are brand new HP, and my printer recognized them instantly...and prints like new. I will be using this supplier for all my future ink cartridge needs. Seriously, they are less than 1/2 the price of my local store, and the cartridges arrived in 2 days.
