To set up the ScanJet, we connected the USB cable to our PC, plugged in the AC power, and turned on the PC. We bypassed the Windows '98 new hardware wizard, dropped in the HP ScanJet Software CD-ROM, and followed the ScanJet setup wizard. The entire process was straightforward and intuitive.
After restarting Windows '98, we installed and ran Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition (included among the ScanJet software), and followed its built-in wizards to scan a color photograph. The result was a beautifully sharp image that was very true to the original.
We also installed a trial edition of OmniPage Pro 8.0, the renowned optical character recognition (OCR) software from Caere, along with PageKeeper Standard. (You must install PageKeeper in order for OmniPage to work with the scanner, a detail that was not at all intuitively apparent but that we found by trial and error.) We scanned a heavily marked, wrinkled text document containing several fonts and viewed the results in OmniPage. (Because OmniPage also works with Microsoft Word, we repeated the process from within Word by selecting Acquire Text from Word's File menu.) Although the process of scanning, interpreting, checking, and exporting text was slow, both the scanner and the OmniPage software performed well. Our pencil marks did confuse the OCR software, but the unblemished text was correctly interpreted and the quality of the scan was excellent. Wrinkled and slightly torn pages did not interfere with the scanning, only actual marks through letters prevented a correct interpretation.
With Hewlett Packard's reputation for quality and its long-standing investment in scanning products for both home and business use, we're not at all surprised by the good results we got from the ScanJet 5200Cxi.

I just bought one and am very happy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hewlett Packard C7193A ScanJet 5200Cxi Color Scanner (Office Product)
I just replaced another brand of USB scanner which was giving me fits with a new ScanJet 5200C.The installation went flawlessly, and the bundled software is great. The extra size and weight of this scanner compared to many is because it is built on a sturdy metal chassis instead of the plastic one finds in lower end scanners. I have high hopes of using this scanner for many years thanks to the more robust construction. A scanner isn't really a portable appliance, so I'm happy to be getting heavy steel for my money. The automatic configuration software seems to be pretty smart. For instance, it trims the scan to exactly the size of the scanned object. Color quality and image sharpness are first rate. I am SO happy to have moved up to an office grade scanner instead of wasting hours fighting with a "bargain" model.

HP Remains the Best,

This review is from: Hewlett Packard C7193A ScanJet 5200Cxi Color Scanner (Office Product)
I had problems with the USB installation (not caused by HP, but by a previous scanner that left garbage all over my Windows registry) but now that it's working, it's great. Very fast and reliable, with excellent photo quality. There are cheaper scanners out there, but with those companies you'll pay in aggravation what you save in dollars. I highly recommend the HP!

Great quality but a bit slow.,
This review is from: Hewlett Packard C7193A ScanJet 5200Cxi Color Scanner (Office Product)
I purchased the HP 5200Cxi about a month ago and have found it to be great. The set-up was quite easy and pictures and other things i've scanned come out great. The only negative thing I have to say is that it is much slower than I expected for a fairly expensive model.
