Book Description

November 1, 2008
The second book in the Hex series features feisty witch Jazz and her drop-dead gorgeous vampire cop boyfriend in a new installment. On again, off again for over 300 years, Jazz and Nick are finally back together, but then Jazz thinks Nick has bitten her. Separated again, upset and angry, the two of them start having violent, recurring dreams in which each one figures in disturbing and menacing ways. They can't sleep, they can't eat, and they finally figure out they'd better get together and discover who's poisoning their dreams-and their relationship.

Full of the fantastic secondary characters that Linda Wisdom's fans know and love, including Jazz's sister witches and a cast of delectable supernatural male characters, Hex Appeal is fun and funny paranormal romance at its best.

"Filled with loads of sass and sensuality, plenty of laughs and a host of oddball characters who'll leave you in stitches and asking for more."
-Book Loons

"With a rollicking cast of supporting characters, biting wit and sensual scenes, 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover is 'a high-power keg of excitement!'"
-Coffee Time Romance

4 Star Review-Romantic Times: "Longtime series author Wisdom makes a wickedly fun jump into the supernatural realm. Offbeat characters...offer insight into this highly intriguing new heroine. The balance of danger, adventure and the supernatural is excellent. With characters as rich and challenging as these, let's hope we haven't seen the last of them."

"Wisdom, no stranger to romance fans, delivers a striking opening salvo in her new paranormal series... a zany, hot read." -Booklist (20080912)

From Booklist

Spirited curse-breaker Jazz is a witch who knows what she wants and how to get it. But two new wrinkles in her life stump her completely. There’s no way she believes the accusations that her beloved, if voracious, bunny slippers ate a wereweasel working at the local carnival, but proving their innocence will be difficult. It will take her best effort and a sharp mind, which require a good night’s sleep. But she hasn’t gotten many of those lately as nightmares plague her, and she suspects they’re caused by some form of wicked magic. Jazz and vampire detective Nick are back in their second imaginative and enjoyable adventure, following Wisdom’s 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover (2008). Jazz is as irascible, high-maintenance, and quick-tempered as ever, and Nick is the kind of vampire who loves her just the way she is. Though some of the cases they work on seem to not serve the story, the main tale is an intriguing look beneath the bravado of Wisdom’s characters to their inner fears and vulnerabilities. --Nina C. Davis

More About the Author

When I sold to Silhouette books on my wedding anniversary in 1979 I didn't expect to get this far. I love what I do and can't imagine doing anything else. I'm married with two white mini Schnauzers, one parrot, and a demented tortoise. We live in Southern California near San Diego in a town that's provided fodder for some of my stories. I like to say that when we moved here twenty years ago there were three romance writers. Now there is only me and to date I have not been considered a suspect.

You'll also notice I'm putting my backlist books up for the Kindle along with many more found at www.joyridebooks.com that's also for the Kindle. A lot of my fans have asked if my past books will ever be available as e-books and I'm so glad I was able to do that for them. So keep checking my book list here and you'll see more showing up!

My Hex series are the books of my heart. The ones I've wanted to write for a long time and so glad to see out there. Many readers are confused by the two Demon titles and different cover looks. They're a part of the Hex series, still the disgraced witches from the Witches Academy, just with a different look. And yes, more are coming along with some novellas featuring the first witches.

There's times I think I enjoy writing the creatures more than the characters. And probably why my Fluff and Puff bunny slippers tend to never be where I left them!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hex Appeal by Linda Wisdom, October 3, 2008

Reviewed for queuemyreview.com

Shoes that bill and coo, and Monty Python's rabid bunny slippers come to life! "Hex Appeal" by Linda Wisdom is a laugh out loud paranormal romance. With zany secondary characters and a Starbucks addicted witch in love with a smoldering, sexy vampire, this series has something for everyone. In "50 Ways to Hex Your Lover", Jazz and Nick reunited to finally defeat a returned enemy. Now in "Hex Appeal" they'll need to trust each other more than ever before to best whatever force is trying to either break them up or kill them.

Jazz is a 700-something (real women never tell) witch with a wicked sweet tooth and a weakness for her vampire lover. Never willing to take the easy route, Jazz is currently working as a curse remover while waiting out her banishment from witch school. When she begins having bad dreams, she figures it's just something she ate. When she beings having nightmares, she thinks it must be some curse or hex. But when one nightmare causes her to lose her magic...well, that's war.

Nick still can't believe how well he and Jazz are getting along. A vampire and a witch...who'd a thunk it? Even being unable to drink Jazz's blood can't damage his love for her. When Jazz begins having bad dreams, he's worried. When he begins having bad dreams, he's pissed. But it's becoming all too clear that their enemy or enemies are highly placed in the supernatural community and very powerful.

Jazz is someone I'd want to hang with...while drinking wine, eating chocolate, and trashing men. She's funny and has so many quirks, I can't begin to list them all. She also has rubber ducks that swim in her bathtub, a hunk for a boyfriend, shoes that flirt, and shoes that can kill...literally. Now that's my kind of woman! Nick is still a bit mysterious, but more pieces of his past come to light in this book. These two are the George and Gracie (or Jennifer and Brad for you younger ones) of the paranormal world.

Wisdom's contemporary California is the perfect setting for Jazz's crazy world and the wacky and weird characters who inhabit it. While there's enough steamy romance to satisfy the paranormal romance label, this second book is more about the creatures who live in Jazz's world...weres, vampires, witches, wizards, ghosts, elves, pixies, and creatures not yet identified. The slowing unfolding mystery reveals itself at a perfect pace, and still leaves room for more books in the series. If you're looking for a humorous change of pace, pick up Linda Wisdom's "Hex Appeal" and laugh yourself silly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance, Humor, Witchy Spells and a mystery to solve!!, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Hex Appeal (Mass Market Paperback)
After battling Clive Reeves in 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover, Jazz, a 700 year old witch, thought all of her troubles were behind her. But someone or something isn't done with Jazz and they're striking with a vengeance. Jazz realizes that someone is using magic to haunt her dreams after she continually suffers from nightmares. But with such a long life, it's hard to figure out whom that someone might be.

It all starts with Jazz's favorite magical slippers Fluff and Puff being accused of eating Willie, a were weasel, from the boardwalk. When they cough up a button, their fates are sealed and it's off to bunny prison for them until the mystery can be solved. Jazz knows her slippers wouldn't murder someone no matter how tasty they might be, but with Willie nowhere to be found Fluff and Puff are looking guiltier every day.

Everything is going great for Jazz in her relationship with vampire cop Nick Gregory. But when she starts to have nightmares of him attacking her that feel all too real, it causes problems between them. Nick is suffering from nightmares himself but he hasn't told Jazz about them. It's almost as if someone is purposely trying to cause problems between Nick and Jazz.

While trying to uncover the nightmare fiasco, Jazz works as a chauffeur for the supernatural and as a curse eliminator. But when Jazz suddenly ends up cursed herself, she starts to wonder if her work has backfired on her somehow. Will Jazz and Nick figure out who is out to get them before it's too late? Will Fluff and Puff be destroyed for eating Willie? Will Jazz be a good little witch and not have more years added to her banishment?

Hex Appeal is the second book in Linda Wisdom's new paranormal romance series following the lives of a witch and her vampire boyfriend while they solve mysteries together. The writing flows very well with vividly drawn characters that the reader could easily picture in their head. The characters range from vampires, humans, witches, ghosts, goblins, and were weasels.

I enjoy reading paranormal romance and when it combines humor and mystery, it has all the elements of a fantastic book! Linda Wisdom has definitely cast a spell with Hex Appeal and I enjoyed every magical moment. Overall, Hex Appeal is a really fun book and I am so glad to have discovered this wonderful series!! Look out for the third book in the series Wicked by Any Other Name due out March 1, 2009.

3.0 out of 5 stars expected more, April 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hex Appeal (Kindle Edition)
While this book was just a fun as the previous book, 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover, I was let down by how little anything really developed in this book. I expected more back story regarding Jazz and her Boyfriend/Vampire Nick. There was also the issue of the climax, well, not really being much of a climax. The whole book seemed to build to an ending that never quite got there. I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the novel and hoped that the unraveling of everything wouldn't just be something as simple as Jazz saying "that's it!" Other than these problems, I felt that the book was a great, light read that anyone would enjoy reading when they went to take their mind off other things and just not think for a while.
