5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, November 17, 2001

This review is from: Hex (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was wonderful! It's very similer to Philip Pullman's The Dark Materials only not so sad. Very believeable and not at all faky.

The main character blows off the mushy girl herione tactic with the whole 'I have to save the whole world by myself' attitude that has helped make girls known as Super-Sexy Twitterbrains.Raven is definetly someone I would want around. She is one tuff chic, simply trying to survive in a world were her brains aren't welcome. Litterly.

Raven has mutant genes that enable her to be perfectly in tune with any computer, better than the best hacker, making her illegal, and very dangerous. She's helping her brother find their sister, Rachel, and that means going to the place of certain death, the CPS's lab. The CPS had the legal right to dispose of anyone suspected of having the Hex gene. That means if she get's caught, that's the end. On the way she makes some friends and tons of enemies. The end hinted at some romance in the new book, Hex:Shadows. That's something I'm definetly getting as soon as it comes out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for all ages, February 21, 2002

This review is from: Hex (Mass Market Paperback)
Despite seeing this book recomended for ages 8-12, I as a 15 year old couldn't put this book down, and the same goes for the sequel. Granted it is shorter and a lot easier to read as other great books, such as Lord of the Rings, but it is truly a good book, and worth the small money and time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent..., September 2, 2001

This review is from: Hex (Mass Market Paperback)
In the late twenty first century a gene was created that enabled human beings to connect directly with computers, to access information in systems all over the world. Now, three hundred years later, the Hexes are being hunted down by the government and systematically exterminated. Raven is one such Hex. Together with her brother Wraith, she has come to London to seek her sister Rachel, who may or may not be a Hex herself. Along with street kid Kez and Ali, a spoilt, rich Hex, Wraith and Raven hunt for clues to Rachel's whereabouts - a search that will lead them to a CPS laboratory, built for the purpose of research into the Hex gene and for testing and exterminating the Hexes themselves.

The first instalment in a trilogy, Hex is a compelling mix of action and sci-fi that will keep you reading until the very end. The pace is incredible, the action is non-stop and the atmosphere is so convincing that you can really imagine travelling through twenty fourth century London. The characters, particularly Raven herself, are fascinating and memorable and really bring this futuristic world to life. I can't wait to read the remaining books - Hex: Shadows and Hex: Ghosts - in the trilogy. Definitely recommend to all teen sci-fi fans.
