Great story - great art!,
By Boris "bimboclon" (Wien) - See all my reviews
This review is from: HEXED (Paperback)
Now this was an entertaining read! I stumbled upon this book when Boom! allowed Newsarama to present the complete first chapter online for free. Don't take my word for it, just go there and read it (there are no links allowed in reviews, so just google "newsarama" "nelson" "hexed" "full free"). I am not that much into the occult otherwise but that story had me hooked. I had to buy this Trade to know how Lucifer's story goes on. And I was not disappointed. The script is very elaborated and subtile. I had to read it twice to really understand all the ramifications. I pity my fellow reviewer who based his review on the misunderstanding that the three single issues he owned were the full story. Of course all the strands fall in line in the last chapter. And it's really great. "Irony is the pinnacle of wit." Young immigrant Luci Jennifer Inacio das Neves - "Lucifer" - makes a living of stealing objects of the occult. And she makes a habit of making powerful enemies. When she is blackmailed because of one of her thieveries and drawn into a highest stake power struggle she has to fight for her life and that of her employer. There is not good and evil among the antagonists, there are only shades of black and grey, there are no angels - oops, now I messed it up - I will spoil no more ;-)
Emma Rios' art just fits the story. She reminds my of John Romita jr. during his best days (and consequently Rios recently has been invited to do some Spider-Man). The dark coloring adds to the mysterious mood of the story. I would love to see more of this creative team and of these characters. Highly recommended!

good horror, but too short,
This review is from: Hexed (Hardcover)
the girl is hired to steal from demons. she can cross dimensions... and then comes many questions about her abilities and her past.
the story is surprisingly very interesting, it is a good horror story, very dark, but only 3 issues were published... you end up with so many questions. i scratched my head and asked: "thats it?" i really hope more gonna be released because it is a very promising story. |
