Product Description

The four horseman of the Apocalypse lurk in the shadows before you. They are death, Pestilence, Famine and War. They are the root of all that is evil. They are the least of your worries. The last known Serpent Rider, Eidolon, lives. As the Necromancer, the Assassin, the Crusader, or the Paladin, you must defeat the dark generals and their Hell-spawned legions before you can face the Archfiend and attempt to end his ravenous onslaught. With the destruction of D'Sparil and Korax, the forces of Light believed that they would gain respite from the vicious attacks of the Serpent Riders. They were wrong. As you clinch your bootstraps and ready your weapons, you can only hope and wonder what lies in the depths of the recently besieged castle that stands before you. All of humanity rests on the edge of your blade. Go in peace and you will surely die. Hexen II features four single player hubs and deathmatch capabilities for 16 players while simultaneously offering four character classes, each with four weapons with dual fire modes for a total of 32 unique weapon effects. HeXen II is the first 3-D shooter to feature transparent water effects in both hardware and software rendering modes and one of the only fully 3-D games to feature single player cooperative gameplay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hexen 2, February 15, 2010

Panda "Panda" (nonyobuisness, VA USA) - See all my reviews
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Hexen 2 (CD-ROM)
I started playing this game when i was around seven years old. Couldn't actually figure out any of the levels, but killing the things was sure fun! My grandma and i finally beat this games together, and i have been playing it ever since. Hexen 2 involves not to great graphics, as it is from 2002, but it is truly a joy to play. It is complex, and i agree with other reviews that it can be frustrating to find levers and such, the game takes you on a new level of excitement with every turn. One minute you are in old england, to Egypt, then to a Greece like layout. This game is fun for me still after years of playing it. I then got a mac laptop, and have not been able to play the game for years, but i am truly excited to start again. It can be buggy, but all you have to do is go to the main menu and try again. It's not one of those annoying games that bugs permenantly. It is nice in that although the graphics are low, it doesn't lag your computer at all! You know what i mean gamers, you are fighting the final boos, after hours on that one level you are finally about to beat it, the tension is building, and... The program quits out giving you some error message. After years even decades of playing, never happened to me. So, if you are looking for a game that will involve excitement, but also a little brain power, guess work, and some time, this is what you've been looking for! Don't be fooled, this game takes a long time to beat, but isnt that part of the fun? No game is that fun if you beat it in one sitting. Trust me, this game will be worth every cent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Raven game of all time, December 19, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Hexen 2 (CD-ROM)
If you are a fan of the original Heretic or Hexen... it's probably best to play those. Hexen 2 offers an upgraded engine for better graphics. Ok, now that I'm done talking about the game's good points, on to the bad.

Hexen 2 is considered a 1st person shooter/puzzle game. Wait, what? To include the word "puzzle" in Hexen 2's description is somewhat of a misnomer considering that there are absolutely no actual puzzles to solve. A better description would be walk around the same empty monotonous HUB level for 20+ hours with no one to fight, searching for some stupid little switch or skull or something. Fans of hide and seek will love the boring search and not find gameplay.

If you enjoyed the original Hexen's concept of only having 4 weapons through out the game, you'll be pleased to find out that Hexen 2 also offers a non-variety of weapons to attempt to use. Generally there are only one or two weapons per character class that are useful AT ALL. The aiming, even with the crosshair set to "1" from the console (as in the Quake game's console) is so terrible that random clicks with your eyes closed seem to be just as effective as well aimed shots.

In an attempt to make Hexen 2 more RPGish, the developers included a level up system. Good idea -bad execution. You level up to use worthless character abilities such as: hide from enemies while after standing still in a shadow for about 10 seconds.

Most of the time spent playing this game involves wondering if the reason that you can't get through a door is because the game is buggy (which it is) and for some reason the puzzle you just solved didn't react properly with the door, or if there is some very obscure tiny switch that you missed. I had more fun writing this review about this game than playing it.
