Juliana rocks,
By
This review is from: Hey Babe (Audio CD)
Can anybody write songs like Juliana? her tunes are the best out there. On her first solo disc she has come a long way from the Blake Babys days, the songs are harder and better than the Blake Babys tunes. The sweet vocals are great, she's dropped the little girl sound from the Blakes and sounds much better now. While not quite the masterpiece that Only Everything is, it's not very far off. The bass and guitars are excellent, the vulnerable and personal lyrics are good too, with solid producing throught the entire disc. Every song on the disc is good with a wide variety of tunes that don't all sound alike like alot of discs do. This can be played over and over and is still just as good each time it's played, The Lights is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. A must have disc, they don't get any better than this.

I've owned this album for a long time, and it still remains one of my favorite. From the catchy first track 'everybody loves me but you', this album draws you in. Some of my fave tracks are i see you, no outlet, forever baby, and one of the greatest songs to wallow in your self pity to... ugly. The song nirvana is an ode to everyone's favorite grunge band, and pretty much sums up my ideal girlfriend. If you are sick of the same old poppy girl rock, and can think for yourself, pick this up NOW!

I've always really enjoyed Juliana's stuff. Over the years her music has been a bit off the normal beaten path, and that's what I enjoy about her. She's always different and you can never expect the same thing from her twice. This album shows a bit more of a quieter side, and her songs are a little less harsh. Her voice is very distinct and there's nothing else like it.

Boston Alternative circa 1992-- my early buglary years,

This, along with become what you are, was a staple of my early JH stages. Dino Jr, Buffalo Tom, Gigolo Aunts, all of these have a special place in the cultural pantheon of the early 90's in Boston. While the clubs have come and gone, and some have stayed and changed, I forever have this music to remember a turbulent time in my development into maturity. Thanks, Juliana!

Julianna Flys Solo,
By Jim Falzone (Binghamton, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hey Babe (Audio CD)
This album confirmed that Julianna aspired to a different musical direction than her Blake Babies Buddies. From the tongue-in-cheek album title to the less subtle attack on sexism in the song "Get Off Your Knees", this angel-voiced vixen had something to say about the state of rock and roll. Namely, that rock women deserve respect! The other songs including "Everybody Loves Me But You", "I See You" and "Ugly" are from-the-heart rock songs with a quirky punk attitude. In hindsight, this album also foreshadowed the edgier Hatfield stuff that would surface on later albums. If you are a fan of Julianna and you don't own this album - you should buy it.

I have all of the Juliana Hatfield CD's and now many years later still go back to this one quite often. Cool sounds and interesting lyrics are all over this disc and the only rival was "Become What You Are". If you only know JH for "My Sister" and "Spin The Bottle" get this CD too!

I think she's still finding herself on this album...Some of the songs I did enjoy, others were just okay. The alternative pop is edgy and overall this album is pretty good.

Juliana Hatfield makes a strong solo effort after the dissapointing breakup of Blake Babies. "Everybody Loves Me But You" should have been a massive hit, but you can't force good taste on the public.
