Boozoo is the King of Zydeco,

This album is a good introduction to Boozoo and the Magic Sounds. It includes perhaps his best song, "You're Gonna Look Like A Monkey When You get Old". It's a shame, but in this genre, most people seem to have only heard of Buckwheat Zydeco. This album is fun music, and more real, souful and legitimate than Buckwheat Zydeco. In comparison, Boozoo is Bob Dylan and the Beatles, while Buckwheat Zydeco is O-Town.

In May 1997 I happened to be in New Orleans on business--right in the middle of Jazz Fest. Although I was not able to get up to the fairgrounds for the Fest itself, I was able to hear some really good live music, the highlight being one Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Louisiana Music Factory, a small independent record store, where I was able to hear the Rebirth Brass Band, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Roy Carrier, and finally the group that brought the evening to a rollicking, frolicking, dancing-in-the-aisles climax--Boozoo Chavis and the Magic Sounds.
At age 67 when this was recorded, Boozoo was simply amazing, and Hey Do Right captures the spicy flavor and rhythmic energy of this Zydeco grandmaster, who had the first commercial Zydeco record all the way back in 1954. On one of the cuts on this CD, Boozoo sings, "You're gonna look like a monkey when you get old!" Hey, Boozoo (may you rest in peace!) if I can have your half the spunk and energy you had when I get old, I don't care whether I'm gonna look like a monkey...
