5.0 out of 5 stars How to communicate with teenagers and grown children, September 7, 2001
This review is from: Hey Kid: Letters from a Dad (Paperback)
Hey Kid: Letters From A Dad is a collection of letters that author Alan Packer wrote to his daughter, Dawn, while she attended college. He explains why he chose to go to Vietnam, reminds her never to take American freedoms lightly, and admits his own faults for reacting badly to an employee with a nose ring. Packer's honest, straightforward words aren't just endearing; they're a useful model of how to communicate with teenagers and grown children - even if one doesn't always have the "right" thing to say.

This is a straightforward and honest account of one Fathers communication to his daughter. We need more honest communications with kids in this country more along the example of Alan and his daughter. If we arent careful our next generation wont know what this country stands for and Alan left no doubt. My hats off to him! Its well worth the read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!, December 1, 2000

This review is from: Hey Kid: Letters from a Dad (Paperback)
My family and I drove to Blowing Rock, NC to spend a couple of days. While in Blowing Rock, I happened to walk into Alan's Store. I chatted with him for a few minutes and decided to buy one of his books he had sitting on the counter in his store. I read the entire book within 24 hours. His letters to his daughter are full of wisdom and love. As I was riding home from Blowing Rock, I read several of the letters out loud to my 15 year old daughter. Some made us laugh, some made us smile and others we just said WOW. I highly recommend this little book. You will NOT be disappointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars So, So Helpful, January 7, 2000
This review is from: Hey Kid: Letters from a Dad (Paperback)
Durning the first minute I heard Alan Packer on our local radio station being interviewed, I knew I had to purchase at least 3 of these books. One for each of our children and one for us. He read one of his letters and did it with so much feeling that it really touched me. This is a great book and I recommend ALL, young and older parents read this.
