This Cd has got it all! Diva Songs, Diva Singers, you name it! This Phenomenal Collection of songs is in salute to Mr. Musical Theatre himself, Mr. Producer, Cameron Mackintosh. Producer of such shows and Mega hits as Les Miz, Phantom.., Cats, Miss Saigon, Oliver, Carousel and a gang of other great shows! This CD is not to be missed.
Recorded on a different night than the PBS airing and the video, the CD starts off with about 150 children singing "Food Glorious Food" from OLIVER. A wonderful catchy start to this double disc CD. It soon goes into 5 songs from the revival of MY FAIR LADY starring Jonathan Pryce (Prof. Higgins), Liz Robertson (Eliza), Peter Bayliss as (Eliza's Father). They all do well with the material. John Barrowman dives right into "One Two Three" from the new rock musical THE FIX. Next up is the LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS montage starring Original Audrey, Ellen Greene. After 15 years Ellen still sounds Phenomenal. Not only does she sound great, but her acting is fierce, you can hear it!! Let's sail through GODSPELL and ANYTHING GOES, they were nothing to write home about.
Then we are graced with Bernadette Peters singing "Unexpected Song", a song that she originally sang in SONG AND DANCE (And won the TONY). Next the unknown (to me) DIVA newcomer, Jasna Ivir, dazzles us with her vocal acrobatics in the rousing dance song, "Nicer in Nice" from THE BOYFRIEND. Sail through LAUDER, FIVE GUYS NAMED MO to the OLIVER section where Russ Abbot (Fagan) and Adam Searles (Gavroche from Les Miz Concert, potrays Dodger) in "You Gotta Pick A Pocket Or Two.

This Album is a MUST for every musical theater fan, especially those who love to see more of Lea Salonga. Better if you also have the HEY MR PRODUCER VIDEO (also available here at amazon.com). GREAT ARTISTS, GREAT MUSIC in one GREAT ALBUM!

Excellent review of musical theater.Judi Dench's rendition of send in the clowns get her a standing ovation. Colm Wikinson, Jonathan Pryce, Bernadette Peters, and Lea Salonga wee all in excellent voice. Show keeps your emotions jumping. One minute you're laughing to 'Get me to the church on time' the next you're listening to Maria Friedman's melancholy 'How many tears?' Silly songs like 'Poisoning pidgeons in the park' along with some of the most beautiful love songs ever writen like 'Last night of the world'

Cameron MacIntosh deserves all the praises because he had certainly given us the best of the best. Where else could you enjoy these wonderful performances? I just hope that he'll do another production... I don't care what as long as it features Lea Salonga, Michael Ball, Hugh Jackman, David Campbell and Ellen Greene! Lea, you are one talented performer who needs to be spotlighted for that unique crystalline voice and I can't wait to see you in "The Flower Drum Song" in Broadway. Ellen Greene's powerful performance blew me off.

Where else can you find the most memorable musicals performed on stage in one night? This is probably THE best musical theater album ever recorded. Topnotch performers (esp. Ms. Salonga and Ms. Peters), wonderful songs, brilliant staging -- it's breathtaking!
Get both the video and the CD.

This CD, as well as it's accompanying video, is a must-own for any fan of musical theater. You will never again see a collaboration of artists of this caliber. The CD features songs from over twenty musicals, all produced by the amazing Cameron Mackintosh. Some songs are performed by the original Broadway actors, others by the most famous actor to portray the role, still others by quickly recognizable actors. No where else will you find a recording featuring Jonathan Pryce, Ellen Green, Bernadette Peters, Maria Friedman, Lea Salonga, Colm Wilkinson, Julia McKenzie, David Kernan, Millicent Martin, Ned Sherrin, Stephen Sondheim, Ruthie Henshall, Judi Dench, Michael Ball, Tom Lehrer, Elaine Paige, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

This is a GREAT Broadway collection to have (and the video, too). But, you do have to take the bad with the good. Some lesser-known numbers could have been cut, and the standard Broadway belting singing technique gets a little old...until you hear the incredible talents of people like Michael Ball and Lea Salonga. But I have to say, I have never heard a more emotional, poignant, heart-wrenching version of "Send in the Clowns" than Judi Dench's. She is magnificent.
