Welcome back, Train,

This review is from: Hey, Soul Sister (MP3 Download)
After a break which resulted in the fantastic solo album by Pat Monahan, Train is back and scheduled to release their newest album, Save Me San Francisco on Oct 27, 2009. Hey, Soul Sister is the first single from the new album, and it's a great start. It's a nice, peppy song that makes me smile just by coming up in the shuffle, and makes me look forward to the complete album next month.

A soulful tenor lead helps define this sweet ballad that makes good use of syncopation. What makes this song distinctive, memorable and joyful though is the breezy overlay of chords from a ukelele. Is this mainstay instrument of Hawaiian music crossing over to mainstream rock music? Train sure made it work on this song.

Great single! I'm not a great fan of Train - they can sound pretty "samey" most of the time - but this is brilliant.
