John Madden writes just like he talks!!!, May 27, 1999

This review is from: Hey, Wait a Minute (Mass Market Paperback)
He even sounds excited in print! Madden clearly loves the game of football, and his exuberance is evident throughout this book. His stories and anecdotes from both his coaching and broadcasting days are both hilarious and insightful. My own favorite part of this book were his reminisces of his days with the Raiders, when he coached that team to their first Superbowl victory. He really makes you feel like you were there!

Madden is Football, December 13, 2006
A Kid's Review
Madden is football. John Madden was a good NFL player, a good coach, and now a funny football commentator. I liked this book because it was funny, I respect Madden, and that he has respect for everyone around him.
This book is really funny. One example is that once Madden stopped coaching, he was watching a Raider's game with a friend. The team playing the Raiders made a fatal mistake, they knocked Kenny Stabler( the Raider's quarter-back) flat on his butt. Even though the Raiders were down 24-7 Stabler threw four touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to win the game 28-24.
Secondly, I respect John Madden. He is just a really cool guy. He is so cool that he has been on television, hosted a radio show, wrote a book about his life so far, and has his own video game series. Also, he knows how to do his job whatever it is.
Finally, he respects everyone around him. He respects his players, his assistant coaches, other NFL players, other coaches even if he doesn't like them, NFL officiols, and pretty much everyone else. He will joke around with other people but he stops if it starts to go too far.
So I told you that I like this book because I respect Madden, he respects everyone around him, and because of the fact that this book is funny. I recommend this book to anyone that likes to read and that also know something about football.

Enjoyable and Educational Reading., May 22, 2011

Hey, Wait a Minute (I Wrote a Book) is a collection of random stories that appear out of John Madden's head. I enjoyed many of his oft interesting stories in the book while several of them were boring too. Of course, I learned a lot about him, his Oakland Raiders, the personnel and players within and outside of the team, and the history of NFL. Obviously, John Madden became the greatest announcer we've ever had the pleasure of listening to the last three decades, and he was the only one that I would listen to without muting the television. He bought a lot of fun to the game and stylized it, so it would be interesting to watch regardless of how good or bad the game may turn out to be. Sadly, he retired, and the NFL announcing is now a lost art because today, it's simply impossible to turn on any NFL game and hear a good one. So, pretty much, all NFL games are better seen without any sounds. All in all, I felt Hey, Wait a Minute (I Wrote a Book) is a great book to read for anyone interested in the game of NFL and can appreciate it.
