Authentic Texas--The Real Deal!,
This review is from: Hey You (Audio CD)
This guy won't quit. At a time in country music when radio stations do not know how to program even the slightest hint of the great diversity in country music styles, Jack Ingram keeps putting out authentic Texan singer/songwriting at its best. Without some kind of popular uprising, you are unlikely to hear Ingram on the radio. You might hear him over at a friend's house--that friend who also has Jerry Jeff Walker, Wilco, Son Volt, Steve Earle, old Willie Nelson albums on cassettes, new Willie albums on CDs, and something out of left field like Portishead or Lisa Germano. Right? You have this friend, right? Maybe you are this friend. Either way, get this album. Heck (Note Amazon posting rules observed], get ALL of Ingram's albums. There is an old Zen koan: Oh snail, climb Mt. Fuji; but slowly, slowly. Jack Ingram is going to be a major music star. He's just doing it the old fashioned way: slowly, slowly.

Ingram gets more brilliant with each release,

Given the sameness and overproduction that has become Nashville's stock-in-trade, the freshness of Ingram's Texas-based country is all the more stark. Not only does he write great songs (and pick great songs from the catalogs of others), but he actually records them with his own band. In an age where stars tour with a road outfit and record with a different, small set of Nashville session players, this is a big deal. And especially so given what an accomplished unit Ingram's band is.This latest release follows in much the same twangy vein as 1997s "Livin' or Dyin'" (on the late, lamented Rising Tide label, so snap up a copy while you can). Several of his new compositions are among the best he's written. "Biloxi" is a bitterly resigned monologue from an abandoned son to his wayward father,"Inna From Mexico" explores the the opposite side of estrangement, and "Work This Out" makes the case for another chance. Whether Ingram and his band are burning up the honky-tonk rock of "How Many Days" or singing the unabashed pop of the title track, there's an earnestness that comes through every track. Perhaps its the endless gigs they play together, or maybe it's just the honesty of their intentions, but whatever it is, it's a welcome tonic to the overly manufactured pap that populates country radio. Ingram's work is like a highly-nuanced meal stacked up against the processed, empty calories of Nashville's lowest-common-denominator productions. This is the real deal. Five stars.

I bought this cd after buying a couple Bruce/Charlie Robison cds and hearing that I might also like Jack Ingram. I am so glad that I decided to take my firend's advice and buy this cd. Jack Ingram is not only a great songwriter, he also has a really awesome voice. I would love to hear him play live. This cd is probably not for those that tend to enjoy the over-produced, generic (crappy) music that is too often played on country radio.

The Beat Up Ford Rolls On.....,
By
This review is from: Hey You (Audio CD)
One word can sum up this recording...."WOW". Great writing, great vocals, just flat out great music from Jack and the Beat Up Ford Band. I bought this disc a little over a year ago, and I have YET to conjure up the gall to take it out of the changer. I can truly think of nothing short of a legend that could replace Mr. Ingram's spot in there. Richard Bennett was able to capture the beauty of Jack's writing and the energy and intensity of a BeatUpFord live show (which, by the way, if these guys come to your town, GO!). This disc is a MUST for any lover of what country music should be...

Excellent CD - the best CD coming from Nashville in 1999,

Jack Ingram continues to chip away at the wall. Slowly knocking down the current country music barricade. The follow up to his critically acclaimed disc, Livin or Dyin, HEY YOU finds Jack at his best. Great vocals, great songs, great musicians and the best part - they sound even better live and in person. Jack Ingram is the REAL DEAL. Take a listen and you'll agree. Easily one of the best CD's you'll buy this year. Jack co-wrote 2 songs with Todd Snider and they both rock. Look for Jack to make it big in 2000. Keep your ears to the ground because Jack is kicking down the door of country music. great CD.

Jack & the Beatup Ford Band are back & hotter then ever with a new cd & a new record label. I've been following Jack for almost 5 years and his music & songwriting improves with each new release, unlike much of what you hear on today's "country" radio. "Hey You" is not your average standard cd with 2 or 3 good songs & the rest filler material, performed by studio musicians Every song on this release is played by Jack & the BUF Band and they've never sounded better. Songs like"Biloxi", "Mustang Burn" & "Work This Out" are destined to be classics.

Why is it that every Jack Ingram album is my favorite Jack Album? Ingram continually puts out great music and thusly, great albums. Whether you are rocking out with "Barbie Doll" or "Mustang Burn" or daydreaming to "Biloxi" this album has something for everyone. Get it and you will NOT be dissappointed.

Okay so I watched this guy's video for the chick. But don't that song rock? I bought this cd and liked it better than the new one by Jay Farrar. I hate new country/alt country...all that's just talk. This is a collection of gritty prosaic songs. You can hear a little Steve Earle here and a touch of Tom Petty as well. Hank would be proud, but so would Van Zandt. These are songs you can feel, and sing along even if you haven't heard them before!

This is a GREAT CD! I have all his CDs and this is my new favorite. It's got the perfect mix of music and the writing is as clever as always. He's come a long way from playing at Cain & Abel's in Austin and we miss seeing him all the time!

GREAT CD!!!,
This review is from: Hey You (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after hearing the song "Work This Out". That's the best song on this CD...but there are plenty more great ones. I love his voice and the simple, real country music...unlike what's taking over the radio. If you like Charlie Robison...heck even if you don't...you'll still love this CD.
