The World's Lightest Rolling Carry-On, December 3, 2008
This review is from: Heys Xcase 20" Carry-On (Apparel)
Hammacher Schlemmer calls this the world's lightest rolling carry-on, and I must agree. It is HALF the weight of my old Travelpro soft-sided carry-ons, though they are somewhat larger in capacity since they were designed to absolutely max out the then current airline carry on limits. Light as a feather, easily maneuverable upon inline skate wheels, I had my 6 and 4 year-olds pulling them fully loaded around airports with no difficulties. Note: Heys is going through something of an unannounced model change with these items. Newer items have a built-in TSA-approved 3-digit combo lock; older items include an unattached NON-TSA-approved 3-digit combo lock, which is obviously useless for US travel. If you get sent an older one, and you have enough time before your trip, I suggest exchanging it for one with the built-in lock. Problems? Well, as expected, the surface scratches very easily. If that is a problem for you, I suggest paying extra to purchase matte finish Heys XCase-NS Carry On or exotic finish Heys XCase Exotic Carry On models. Chances are that you WILL be required to check it at the gate if you travel on small regional jets like we did. (If you regularly fly on such smaller aircraft, a Heys XCase Mini Carry On might be a better choice.) In addition the older one's handle will not lock at the half height level due to an obvious fit defect, which could be an issue for the short. We are debating whether or not to return it for exchange.

Light, sturdy, holds a ton & makes travel easier, November 13, 2009
This review is from: Heys Xcase 20" Carry-On (Apparel)
I've had my bag just under a year and it's been a terrific travel companion! When my husband gave it to me for Christmas last year, I thought it was pretty (candy apple red metallic), but I did not expect it to be very useful. I was wrong!! My typical travel is 3-4 days for business. With the help of some packing cubes, this bag is perfect for holding everything I need. For longer trips, it's possible to pack even more -- I'll admit to sitting on it to help close it enough to zip it up. It is STRONG!! My colleagues are always shocked that I can pack everything I need into such a small carry on bag. Because it's lightweight, it's easy to lift into overheads or carry down steps. It DOES scratch fairly easily -- and after a dozen or two trips, it is banged up a bit (mostly from cabs and hotel checking, versus air travel). But that's a small price to pay for a bag I have NEVER had to check, even on a regional jet. If it is not overstuffed, it seems to fit even in small overheads with relative ease. It also rolls effortlessly thru airports and I can usually wheel it to my seat on jets without trouble. When it arrived, it did smell strongly of paint, but it faded within a few weeks. I am somewhat concerned that since I use it so much and pack it pretty full that the zipper may break, etc. But I love the bag so I'll definitely buy another should that happen! For under $100, it's a steal.

Falling apart at the seams, January 9, 2009
This review is from: Heys Xcase 20" Carry-On (Apparel)
Looks great and very light but not the most durable. Granted I have had mine or 2 years now, but it's starting to fall apart at the seams at the lower part of the case. And it's happening on both sides.
