Best Album of 2002,

This review is from: Hi Fi Sounds for Young Norwegians (Audio CD)
This CD is probably my best find ever. For anyone who likes either Drum & Bass, Chill-Out or any fusion of those styles, you will LOVE Slowpho. Reminiscent of (but not completely similar to) Portishead , Lamb and Kosheen in either style or flavor, Slowpho has everything I'm looking for in a band. If you've ever heard the band Lamb and thought they were just on the edge of being brilliant, but something was missing, then listen to Slowpho. The vocals are rich and sultry, yet sometimes haunting. The instrumentation is the perfect mix of samples, synth and acoustic mish-mash. The lyrics are cool, and clever and sometimes head turning.Of all songs, I'd have to say "Hotel Sleep" is my favorite, but the first half of the album in general is great. The second half is a little more moody, for those who are fond of Portishead's darkness. Check out the band's website, they are adorable.

This excellent album combines electronic, jazz, chill-out and easy listening elements into a tight and groovy, cohesive mix. The vocals are reminiscent of Portishead, Lamb, and Nina Simone to namedrop a few. Where Kosheen's first album promised but fell short, Slowpho delivers.
