5.0 out of 5 stars Brand New Roots, January 30, 2002
This review is from: Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions, Vol.3 (Audio CD)
If you're wandering aimlessly in search of a record that could recreate the excitement of your cosmopolitan late night excursions, you might want to lend both ears to the third installment of the Hi-Fidelity series. As other compilations in the chill-out genre have by now ran out of steam, recycling the same 5 year old tracks heard everywhere else, Guidance records keeps digging out true musical gems. While "Lounge"(featuring tracks by the Dining Rooms, Thievery Corporation, Soulstance, etc...) plays off as the sexy, groove laden soundtrack for metropolitan cocktail-sipping hipsters, "Dub Session" is a more intimate affair, delivering this time a much
more progressive selection (featuring the works of Cotton Belly, Tosca, Boozoo Bajou, DJ Krushet al...), preserving the deep roots of dub, but thrusting the bass-heavy rhythms forward into the new millennium. Both albums and their predecessors in the series, simply stand out as the best collection of their kind."

Landmark! Masterpiece! Speechless. This was the highlight of my new music discoveries for years. A friend burned this cd and handed it to me with a grin. I was so impressed I felt obligated to buy an original just to pay my humble dues. If you like dub or reggae and you can only afford one cd for 5 years, buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary dub that keeps an eye on the past, March 12, 2002
This review is from: Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions, Vol.3 (Audio CD)
This album is beautiful! Laid-back, blissed-out, head-noddingly beautiful. All the artists involved are set on taking dub into the future but reverently keep one eye on the past glory of Jamaican dub. The album strays into other area's (downtempo, etc.) but it doesn't go too far, just enough to lend a sense of diversity that adds up to one fine, cohesive, whole. There aren't too many compilations that can pull that off.

4.0 out of 5 stars dub-e-licious, December 15, 2001
This review is from: Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions, Vol.3 (Audio CD)
In a race for night life, balmy island breezes, the latest entry in the Hi-Fidelity Dub Sessions stakes crosses the finish a distance first. Not to belittle the 2 previous entries, but they just aren't up to the challenge (believe me, I've got the whole Guidance Recordings family). You get your basic head nodding dub, spiced up with some dancehall, 2-step, downtempo chillout, and grooving vibes. Opening with Cotton Belly - "Tempest Dub" you're well on your way to some kinda' reggae heaven. The menu just gets better. Tack on cuts from Tosca, Bacuuzzi, Boozoo Bajou, Daddy Ous, and DJ Krush. Hip enough to include today's electronic tweakings without a second's thought. The end nicely wrapped with the classic "Ain't No Sunshine" reworked by Stryke. Just desserts served up. Hold that note a little longer? Yes indeed.

The third volume in our acclaimed series showcasing the very best in modern dub music. Hi Fidelity Dub
Sessions Chapter 3 is an inspired collection of future root riddims featuring contributions from an all star
