4.0 out of 5 stars Good kit
The items that came with the kit appear to be of good quality and should be useful on the trail. Seems a bit overpriced for the overall kit. You still need to buy some quality chain to go with the kit. So expect to spend another 50-100 dollars for that.

2.0 out of 5 stars GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!! Which just might happen!
Your life could depend on this kit, YIKES! I believe in over building anything I use. So what's wrong with this kit. Only grade 43 chain, maybe, has an L4 stamp, 3/8" hooks, which aren't stamped with a grade rating at all, 5/8" shackle(probably OK). I use grade 7 chain and 3/4" shackles for my CJ7, weight, probably between 3700-4000lbs.
In assembling the winch...

In assembling the winch tensioner, the hole is too far back in the casting to get the bolt thru. The width of the casting is too narrow to readily accept the chain link, didn't allow for the weld on the link! After forcing the link into the casting, the second link is firm against the nose leaving a good 1/8" to go to get the bolt in. I ground a small notch in the casting to allow the second link to seat itself a little deeper. Being as how you are going to be standing in line with the straps, chain, etc., the weakest link had better be the shear pin in the jack, ONLY!! You don't want hooks, chain, etc. breaking under load, I don't want to walk out with my head tucked under my arm! I'll replace the hooks, that's for sure. For my JEEP, the chain and shackle are probably OK, if not stuck in deep mud, but I'm not happy. Remember, the shear pin should be the ONLY thing breaking if your exceeding the load limit. I offroad alone in the Rockies,I'm VERY careful! With this kit I'll be even more careful because I never want to be forced to use it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great addition, June 15, 2011

If you have a Hi-Lift Jack the ORK is a must. I would rate this higher but this kit is just not complete with out supplying your own 3/8" link chain with hooks. I think if Hi-Lift added a 15' to 20' 3/8" chain with hooks to this kit then it would be perfect for what it does.

Well this product let me down in a big way. I didn't have time to assemble it before I left on my trip. Got down in the maze and the tensioner mount had the hole drilled to far in so the chain link wouldn't allow the bolt to go though. Useless. Also the gloves ripped apart the first time I pulled them on. Go get your own chains. This thing was poorly put together.

A GOOD ADDITION BUT KIT SHOULD INCLUDE THE SECOND CHAIN REQUIRED TO PULL YOURSELF OUT OF A TIGHT SPOT...
DON'T EXPECT IT TO BE ALL INCLUSIVE , YOU WILL NEED A SECOND CHAIN.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful but not all you need, February 26, 2011
This review is from: Hi-Lift Jack ORK Off-Road Kit (Misc.)
I like this kit. I think it is very useful. It would probably be better to buy a winch. I got this kit for Christmas because I don't have a winch. Even if I get a winch I will probably still cary this because i have been stuck and had winches not pull me out. Anything you can get helps! Also, they don't tell you, but you need at least about 20 feet of chain and as many tow straps as possible. Also, the parts bolt onto the jack, but its not like they need to be tight or anything, the bolts just keep it from slipping off the jack. So to save time, I replaced the bolts with pins which is a lot nicer. A good buy though.

When you need a jack, the situation is usually lousy. What you need is the best product to get you out of your situation and back on the road or trail. Why settle for less when you know that you have the best there is with this hi-lift jack. Arrived quickly in perfect condition. I highly recommend this jack as the best on the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good backup Kit., January 15, 2012

This review is from: Hi-Lift Jack ORK Off-Road Kit (Misc.)
I'm going to preface by saying I have an Electric Winch on my 4Runner so I got this only as a backup.

So for the price I can't really complain about the quality of this kit. But you can tell it's not as high quality as a Pro Comp or ARB product. But it does what it needs too. Using it can be a little bit confusing and time consuming. But when you're stuck this will help you get unstuck. So make sure you read and understand the instructions before trying to use it the first time. I would recommend a dry run before using it. There's nothing more frustrating than being stuck and getting confused on how to use something like this in the heat of the moment.

The biggest thing to remember is you need an extra strap or chain to use this. IT DOES NOT COME WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED. This is only the basics. Also a good reason to read the instructions first. Because then you'll think you can get unstuck and find out your Dead in the Water.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but worth the money?, February 9, 2011

I have had this exact kit for a few years now and have only used it once. After using it I realized you are much better off just buying a winch, these things take too much time and effort.

Buying this stuff from a local hardware store may save you a buck or two, but this set up is worth the extra couple of bucks. Very well made and the bag keeps it all pretty handy.
