Product Description

Product Description

There are hunting and shooting situations when open sights or a scope may not be the best choice. For those special purpose applications, the H-Lux Optics Red-Dot Series electronic sights could be the answer to your shooting or hunting needs. Hand gunners are discovering how much easier it is to simply place the illuminated dot of these sights on their target rather than attempting to align the front sight in the rear sigh notch and holding the sight picture as the trigger is squeezed. Turkey hunters appreciate being able to track the approach of an old gobbler without worrying about whether or not the front bead of the shotgun is high or low. And muzzle loading hunters in those states where telescopic sights are not allowed during the special muzzleloader seasons are now turning to non-magnifying Red-Dot sights for a more positive aiming point. Hi-Lux Optics Red-Dot Series sights are extremely compact and lightweight. The brightness of the dot can be easily adjusted for easier sighting in either bright or low-light conditions. These sights are fully shockproof and waterproof. Both the ES1X25 and the ES1X30 come with rings; while the ES1X30TP and the ES1X50TP come with integral mounts, ribbed rubber edge guards and flip-up lens covers.

I first came across leatherwood/hilux in the Bushmaster catalog, I had been looking for a red dot for some time and wanted something for a good price that was good quality, So i ordered this product, it arrived quickly, its a huge optic (50mm) i was worried when i first saw it, right up until i mounted it, it looks the part on my AR-15, being a 50mm tube its the perfect size/height on my flattop, I took it to the range and had it zeroed in mins and am able to place a shot through the same hole at 75 yards (benched).
The only downside was my error, i cross threaded a screw, I contacted leatherwood/hilux and told them i wished to purchase a new set of screws they just shipped them to me free of charge.

I'd buy another in a heartbeat

Most Red Dots that are under the $100 range end up being a very interesting crap shoot. For example, they may prove worthy on days where the sun is not out shining bright, indoor ranges, or basically anywhere that is not bright. I've had my pick and choose at several red dots between the $50 and $100 range and every single one would washout under bright daylight or bright locations. They were almost impossible to use under these conditions and proved to be worthless to me.

Well, I am glad I've choose the Leatherwoord (Hi-Lux) red dot. The red dot is constructed well, the 11 settings are great for choosing the brightness of the dot. The 50mm view is perfect in my opinion. It is not too large and gives you the advantage of a wider view from the red dot. The optics come with covers which help protect the lens, help seal the optics (waterproof), and can act as a tint. The optic does not weight too much, so it is not going to weigh down your rifle. Came with a micro cloth and extra battery as well.

Also it is backed by Bushmasters and is in their catalog; which helped motivate me to pick this red dot over others!

I received mine a few days ago. It's easy to install and use. I chose the 50 MM over the 30 MM because I mounted mine forward (scout style) on the gas tube of an SKS. I thought the 50 MM would give my old eyes a better field of vision. The red dot is not perfectly round but is close enough. I was not expecting an Eotech, Aimpoint or Trijcon for $88, but for the money, it is a great red dot scope. I didn't want to buy a $30 red dot and I couldn't afford the more expensive $400 plus ones. I thought the Leatherwood was the best red dot I could get at a reasonable price and so far I am very pleased. It feels and looks extremely sturdy and looks great on my SKS. After I get to the range I'll add a follow up range report on accuracy.

Range Report: First let me say that the red dot image is much more crisp and clear in outdoor light. The red dot was perfectly round and easy to see. It was a partly cloudy day and I was able to see the dot quite well on setting 3. Once I got it zeroed in, I was doing 2" groups. My good friend was shooting with a red dot that lists at twice the cost and I thought the Leatherwood was a better scope. Plus it just looks cool. I was alternating between cheap Russian and cheap German ammo and the Leatherwood performed beautifully. I definitely would buy again.

When I first got this item it seemed really great, nice and bright, easy to use etc. After about 2 months the lens caps no longer stay in the closed position, I had to use a rubber band to hold them together when not in use. not a real big deal. Here 10 months later after getting the gun out again I noticed that the reflective piece of glass just behind the front piece is almost completely detached! I rarely shoot this gun, maybe have 400 rounds through it, always keep it in a hard case surrounded by foam.

It hasn't been abused, I take very good care of the gun, but if I ever need it I need a quality optic on it, not one that falls apart with minor use. I have requested to return the item, will update this review after I see if they are willing to do something about this issue. I will see if I can upload some photos to show the issue...

I expected for the size of the objective lens for this to be a better quality Item. The dot constanly has the appearance of being off center as it is a relex and poorly executed. And, it does not gather light worth a darn, very dim actually, which was not what I was expecting with such a big tube. It is not all bad it would be great for a plinker or a "back of the safe parts rifle" It will sit on my shelf until I find something to do with it

Scratch cover lens came with a scratch. Red dot was tiny and hard to see. On the good side it's every bit of 50mm.

I bought this to put on my AR15 along with iron sights. I couldn't get the red dot to stay on or adjust brightness until I took off the battery cover, took out the battery and tightened the base plate underneath. I just used two small screw drivers, inserting one in the groves around the ring, used the other screw driver to tap the handle of the first. It tightened enough so that the red dot stays on and actually will adjust brightness using the knob now. Works fine now but I haven't shot my AR15 with it on yet.
