These are easily the most comfortable and attractive hiking boots I've ever owned. They are wide and roomy, the leather is attractive, the soles are stout and they have a steel shank. They have taken me for many, many several-hour-long hikes with no blisters! My first pair of these boots were abused-- I used them to clean dog runs with bleach, hiking in mud and snow, kicking chain link fences and frozen hoses, they were my daily footwear for almost two years while I worked at a dog kennel. They still had a lot of life left in them but I left them outside when it rained and decided it would be best to buy a new pair. My only gripe about these is that they are supposed to be waterproof but they aren't if you're hiking through puddles for more than a couple hours (a little waterprofing treatment would probably fix that problem but I'm lazy). Great boots though, I would never buy anything else after having a pair of these.

This is the second pair I've bought. The first pair I've had for over three years, wear almost daily and the only thing I've had to replace were the laces. Long lasting, earthly looking, well made and highly recommended.

This is by far the best boot I have ever owned. I have several pairs of them, which I switch out daily so that no one pair is used over and over.

Pro:
- Waterproof. They REALLY are water proof. As long as the water doesn't go over the top, your feet will stay dry.

- Exceptionally comfortable to wear. This boot fits well from the first day; often boots have to be "broken in", but not these, in my experience. I wear these every day for 14 or so hours.

- They are very elegant, with a semi-suede look. I actually would prefer them in black, but no one seems to make or carry these any more.

- The tread is very long lasting. I have some pairs that are three years old, and both the tread and the plastic "sponge" material that provides spring have NOT degraded. Very well done.

- They are not too hot in warmer weather, despite the "insulated" rating. I have also worn them in very cold weather, in which case one also needs warm socks.

Con:

- The high quality construction and steel shank means that these are fairly heavy. They are not as heavy as some I've had in the past, but you will know they are on your feet.

- Over time the leather will develop some small seams (this is normal). I generally put mink oil (which is no longer made from actual furry minks, for those interested), which will seal the seams.

- Over time the interior bottom padding will need to be replaced, since it tends to compress. I don't find this with other shoes, but then most other shoes don't last long enough to wear out the inserts (some other part of the shoe fails first). These do last that long.

I recommend that you put these in your shopping cart and save them for later. Check the cart periodically (preferably once daily). The boots generally go on sale at least once per year, which is when I buy them.

As with all shoes, I also recommend that you be sure that a certain size and style fits your feet before ordering online. In my case I had previously bought these from a Hi-Tec store.

Conclusion.
Excellent, the best hiking boot I've ever owned.

The boots fit great and seem quite sturdy. I've had them for about a month with no problems. My only complaint would be that the top two lace hooks are a bit small--the laces sometime slip out of them while I'm walking.

This is the 4th pair of these I have owned over the last 8 years. They are extremely comfortable and well worth the money.

I've had these boots for only 3 months and so my review is not yet based on extended use.

Hiking with these the first time wearing some polyester socks I got hot spots and blisters after a few miles. Switched to wearing Wigwam Merino/Silk F2337 hiker socks and got great results from thereafter. The right socks are as important as the right boot.

I wear these boots walking around in heavy rains and during cool weather. My feet stay dry and warm. The construction and material of the boots seem high quality so far. I wear them to work in an office and fantasize that I'm out hiking in the hills.

Be aware that the top 2 pairs of hooks for the shoe laces can catch on pants that have cuffs that aren't tightly sewn. I have a couple of pairs of pants that fit this description and avoid them with these boots. Ditto for other Hi-Tec boots I own which have the hooks for optionally catching shoe laces.

I also have the Hi-Tec Men's Altitude Ultra Light Hiking Boot. That one is a little tighter fitting at the same size as compared to this one. If I put on double pairs of socks on very cold days the Altitude IV 200 has enough room for them. With the Ultra Light the socks feel a bit tight. I also have the Hi-Tec Yeti 200 and at the same boot size they feel even tighter. I am happy with all my Hi-Tec boots.

I have owed a pair of Hi-Tec men's boots for over 7 years now and I have absolutely loved them. They are really comfortable and rugged. They have been great work boots for me, as well as everyday kickers. I am buying my second pair now, only because I feel like giving myself a rare treat: a great new pair of boots.

These are the third pair of boots for my son from Hi-Tec. He says they are sturdy and comfortable and warm and dry.
Great boots!

We bought these boots for our son with Autism to wear to camp. We were worried that he would have sensory issues with them and take them off the minute we put them on him. Just the opposite! He puts them on in the morning before school and keeps them on until bedtime! He has flat feet and these boots have nice support! I can't wait for him to grow out of them because they fit me too!

Hi-Tec Men's Altitude IV 200 boots are very nice. Fit is very good and they are a pleasure to wear.
