Great Value,

I have this same pair except they're gray and called Tundra (discontinued). Otherwise it's the exact same shoe. I paid $30 bucks for them and used them while hiking in the Rockies this past summer. For the price, I couldn't be happier. They're totally water proof and do their job well when hiking all sorts of terrain (I was mostly on scree). This is great, but it sucks when you take them off at the base of a mountain and your feet stink bad. Thus the 4 stars. I used to wear Vans everyday, rain or shine. These are now my rainy day shoes.

I work part time at a carwash and wanted a shoe that wasnt a full on rubber boot, was still comfortable AND waterproof. This was a tall order to fill to say the least. I have to say that these shoes do fit the bill. While not completely 100% waterproof they do a good job of keeping my feet dry for the most part. It's only after the leather is very soaked that you can start feeling the moisture wick through. They are comfortable and I dont mind being on my feet for 8-10hrs on concrete with them. They are overall a good way to go.

THis shoe is indeed waterproof. I stepped in about 4 inches of water and my feet felt not wet at all. One minor problem which is probably the case with anything waterproof is that, at the end of the day, my feet feel a bit moist but from sweating. Thus good foot hygiene is important!

I bought two pairs of these - one for my husband and one for my 12-yr old son. Both of them wore them on at our lakehouse during vacation. They are perfect for hiking, fishing, boating, etc. And, my son loves them so much that he's been wearing them to school. According to my family, they are comfortable too! Very good investment...!

Runs Small,

My husband loves these. They are comfortable and good-looking. We were disappointed to find they run small by at least half a size, but the trouble to return them was worth it.

The shoe was a major dissappointment. They run a little on the wide side. There is very little cushion or support in them. These are not the shoes for walking in rocks or wooded areas. I felt every rock or broken limb I stepped on. The shoe laces were the worst ever. They came untied hourly until I replaced them to avoid the double knot. The sole came unglued at about five weeks. By week six they were in a dumpster and I was back in my old Nike hikers until the new Columbias arrived. If you buy them change the laces and buy inserts. Keep your Shoe Goo ready and waiting.

Horrible Quality,

I bought a pair of these in late December of 2009. I wore the shoes to work (a short walk across a paved parking lot to my building) for 3 months. By mid-March 2010, BOTH shoes split along the sides, where a piece of rubber meets the sole of the shoe, rendering both shoes useless and certainly they are no longer waterproof.
I wrote to Hi-Tec who informed me that I would have to return the shoes to where I purchased them, and since I bought the shoes online, I figured it was more trouble than it was worth at this point. This was my second pair of Hi-Tec shoes, and my experience with the previous pair was a bit better than this pair (I'd give my previous shoes 2 stars -- they held up for almost 2 years of very light use before holes appeared in the sides of the shoes). I want to reitterate... I didn't go hiking, biking or anything in these shoes, just wore them to work (inside) for 3 months before they were worthless. I'll never buy a pair of Hi-Tecs again.

I have had these shoes for only a couple of days now and have found them a great value for the money. They are comfortable and seem very rugged. For a better shoe you would need to spend at least twice what these cost.

No Ventilation,
By

I honestly have no idea how this shoe is rated so high. I gave it 2 stars because they are somewhat comfortable. This aside, unless you are trudging through snow in freezing cold weather these shoes are FAR to warm and have literally no ventilation.
I have been wearing them in about 40f degree weather and I even went and got special socks that are supposed to keep your feet dry and wick sweat away... these shoes still are too hot and unbearable (going to look for something better today). |
