5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing boots meant for HIKING, not walking the 'burbs!!!, September 6, 2010
This review is from: Hi-Tec Men's V-Lite Mt. Nevis Wpi Light Hiking Shoe (Apparel)
I have no idea why there is a review on here comparing these to a walking shoe!?! That is why these are called "hiking boots" I just got a pair of these so that I can go "hiking" in the adirondack mountains where I live. They are amazing boots! They have kept my feet warm, dry, and comfortable while "hiking" If you try to use ANY boot that is made for hiking in rugged terrain on the road it is going to kill your feet. If you want to be comfortable while walking with your soccer mom buddies around your suburban neighborhood then get a pair of New balance sneakers. Or if you really want a light weight "hiking boot" not really meant for rough terrain try the high tec Karoo, I think you will be happy with those. So for those of you who are using these reviews for what the boot is meant for, which is hiking on trails and in the mountains, these are great boots that will not disapoint. If you live in the suburbs and can't be bothered with the outdoors and have no trails near you then look elsewhere. That's what sneakers are made for. I don't complain to Nike when my pair of Jordans fall apart while hiking on rough terrain. Get real.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best hiking boots I've owned!, August 31, 2009

I just got these, and I'm already sure they are the best hiking boots I've owned.

I've gone through about a dozen pairs in the last 25 years, plus a number of

hiking "shoes", so I do have some experience. It hasn't rained yet, so the one

feature of the Mt. Nevis I remain unsure of is their new waterproof technology,

but the reviews on outdoor web sites have been keen about it.

The boots are very comfortable right out of the box, and sizing seems quite accurate

to me. They have fairly thick soles and heels, plus a strong toe guard so they are

great for hiking on rocky trails. The padding is comfortable, and the uppers are

quite soft as advertised. Best of all, the boots have a good deal of spring to them, so

you feel added power in your stride while you are walking, and this should be quite

useful on longer hikes.

I would say the only thing Hi-Tec didn't get right is the name, I would have called them

something like Propels, because they really make me go. A great hiking boot! (I will make a

short addition as soon as I get to try them in the rain.)

1.0 out of 5 stars low quality, January 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I really wanted to like these boots. A friend of mine had a pair of light weight hikers from Hi- tek and they wore like iron.So I decided to give them a try. Well evidently quality isn't job one with Hi -Tek these days they have been trouble from day one. Right out of the box the fit really wasn't quite right, but I have flat feet so that's not terribly unusual.I played around with insoles till I finally got them to fit acceptably , But what really got me angry was the fact that the rubber on the inside of the toe is now cracked at the junction of the upper and the sole ( what would be the welt on a more expensive boot). One would think that the boot would be made out of leather and then the rubber would be applied over the area that they felt needed more protection but that's not how they were made. under the rubber is the midsole or whatever it is . These boots are 1 year old and I didnt wear them during the summer so they really don"t have alot of miles on them. I will try to fix them with seam grip or some such but it's my guess they are destined for the trash heap shortly. Stay away till they figure out how to make quality products agian.
