5.0 out of 5 stars Right boot at the right price
I was surprised to run across a light, quality, waterproof boot at this price point. I hadn't heard of Hi-Tec before running across these boots, but learned through a Google search that they are a reputable British company that specializes in moderately priced outdoor footwear. I, of course, wouldn't want to take off on a long slog through the hills or mountains all...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mismatched color?
So I read all the reviews for these boots, and I thought I would love them. I dont know if I'm being too picky but they are slightly different color and they aren't exact reverse copies of each other. Is this common in all shoes? Have I just never noticed? For instance the rubber in the front comes up to different heights in the front, the oval shape in the front is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Right boot at the right price, July 4, 2009

I was surprised to run across a light, quality, waterproof boot at this price point. I hadn't heard of Hi-Tec before running across these boots, but learned through a Google search that they are a reputable British company that specializes in moderately priced outdoor footwear. I, of course, wouldn't want to take off on a long slog through the hills or mountains all while trusting my tootsies to inferior materials and poor construction. Feeling confident about the information I'd gathered on Hi-Tec, I took a chance and ordered these.

Call me brave or something worse <smile>, but I wore these straight out of the box on a moderate 8.5 mile backpacking trip with about 30+ lbs lashed to my back. My feet felt fine and dandy when it was all said and done. No breaking-in period needed.

Here are a couple of quick points about these boots:

--> I crossed a small creek on the trip and found that the boots held up to their waterproof claim

--> The backs of the boots are tapered to the level of standard trail shoes (so that only the sides of the boots are high to reach the ankle)--I liked this feature quite a lot as I did not have to worry about the back of the boots rubbing away at my heels

--> I wear a 10.5 (a size that is unavailable in this shoe) but purchased an 11--The 11 turned out to be the perfect fit (fit like a 10.5) and allowed for swelling (i.e. I'd recommend you pick these up in a half size larger than your regular size)

--> The weight of these is negligible--I didn't feel weighed down by these although, as we got within a mile of camp, I couldn't wait to slip out of these and into sandals

All in all, great pair of boots for easy to moderate hikes that will hold their own if you need to cross a creek or two, or stomp through puddles. The best part is that no break in period is required. And boy is the price right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hi-Tec Sofala Hiking Boots, October 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These boots were great for our hiking trip this past weekend. Comfortable, no need to break in. They run a little small so order a half size bigger. Tying these boots was a little troublesome. These really are waterproof had to walk thru some small streams. I feel for myself I need more arch support, but this in no way affects the way I feel about these boots great overall. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a great, comfortable and good looking boot. Thanks Hi-Tec and amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars First pair of Hiking Shoes, September 13, 2010

These are the most comfortable Hiking shoes. Didn't take much to break them in. Nice cushion around the ankle and great support. I have a weak right ankle and need support, but was worried these would rub my back ankle but they are very comfortable and well cushioned. I can't wait to take these to Palo Duro Canyon for a reall hiking trip!

I was looking for a boot that can be worn for hiking as well as in the Winter as a snow boot. I found the latter use first after our first major snow storm of the Winter. The treads were great in the snow and the waterproof material kept my feet dry and warm with appropriate socks. I would recommend these boots to a friend. Look forward to trying them out on the trail!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit stiff, February 26, 2010

I've only worn these boots once on a short hike. So far, they are decently comfortable. They are a bit stiff, and to the average person it probably wouldn't even be noticable. Unfortunately, I have bruises on both of my ankles right now (not from the boots, just from being clumsy), but I think they will be fine after broken in, and the bruises heal of course. Also, they do run a bit small. I would definately recommend ordering a half size above what you normally wear. On a side note, I was a bit disappointed that I was sent the wrong color, but didn't care enough to send them back and exchange. Overall, a good quality boot.

I haven't had a chance to try out the waterproofing yet, but had to let potential buyers know how comfortable these shoes are, and very light weight.
Higher in the front and on the sides to protect from high grass, brambles, snakes. Good ankle support. Yet the collar dips down low in the back so you don't have that constant pressure on the achilles tendon, which makes this the most comfortable hiker i've ever worn.
My usual size is 8 or 8.5 depending on the construction of the shoe, 8.5 fits perfect.

Good shoes which require no break-in! Great especially in wet conditions! A bit heavy for "light" hiking shoes.

I really like these hiking boots. They look so nice I have not worn them hiking yet. I have worn them in the sloopy winter slush and they have kept my feet dry. I will have to get them muddy soon!

This was a great looking boot, but unfortunately it ran on the small side, returned product with no problems and order another style that I am very pleased with.
Thanks for making returns a breeze.
