This item, like other reviewers have mentioned, is a little on the lightweight side. You DO have to hold it down when you remove your USB hardware. However, it LOOKS so nice on a desk that is beside the point. The people in my office liked its looks so much that we bought one for everyone in the office. You can't beat the price for a 4 port USB hub and you can't beat the looks. I would highly recommend this 4 port USB hub.

Without being too harsh, I must agree with what others have written. It works well, very handy for an iPod shuffle. Does it match the build quality of an Apple product? No; but it doesn't cost like an Apple product either. Yes, it could match the shuffle a little better, and yes, it could stand to be a bit heavier. Perhaps taping some weight on the bottom, or using velcro to hold it down would work for some. All in all, still the best compromise for someone who needs a high speed hub and owns a shuffle.

Power Issues,

Many USB hubs are self powered - that means they draw all of the electricity they need in order to operate from the USB cable you connect from your computer to the hub. This USB hub actually has a power supply, yet it sporadically shuts off due to "strain on the hub" i.e. plugging in too many self-powered items which requires you to restart your computer before it will recognize the hub again. To put this into perspective, my setup includes a USB keyboard, USB CF card reader, and USB2 HD with power source. I occasionally use the top-loading port for my thumb drive. I found out later that this hub maxes out at 2 devices without a power adapter. Needless to say, I never thought I'd have power issues with this hub. I've had this thing for over two years and this is the only real complaint.

Supplied the power needed to make HD work,

I had purchased a portable Hard Drive which was supposed to work without a power supply if it was plugged into a USB2 port. Well, it didn't work on my Powerbook. So, I bought the powered hub and the Hard Drive works just fine. The connection on the top is handy. Use a piece of velcro or some other means to secure the hub in place on your desk somehow, otherwise it will not remain in place.

I wanted a USB hub that would work on my small Linux computer (an NSLU2). This Belkin worked perfectly, with none of the flakiness of an off-brand hub I previously tried.

I have several of these hubs. Haven't had any problems with them, and the top slot is convenient for flash drives especially.

Light, simple and cheap. The AC adaptor must be use only if you connect many devices. The ports could be a little less close.

I bought this to replace one I bought a few years back..Glad was still available to buy and at the price is great, considering what some are charging these days. Fits stealthly out the way! Like to keep my setup minimal and clean. Only can recommend this> Does what it says on the tin!

I don't want to sound grumpy about this USB hub. I've had my hub for more than a year now and it has worked with all of the flash drives I've plugged into it. The four ports on the back of the hub are too close for my liking.I can't speak to the iPod shuffle (don't have one) but my digital camera plugs in nicely. For personal use, though, I'd like a little more design and personality to go along with the functionality. |
