4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value Clubs
Hey, I wasn't looking for anything special but I'm tired of playing with seriously old clubs. These aren't spectacular but I've played with them a few rounds and they play fine. I'm sure if you're a low handicap you'd find fault, but for an average player they are fine and you can't beat the value. I say get these and have some money left over for balls, globes, shoes,...

2.0 out of 5 stars you can do better
I am writing this as a review of Hippo clubs in general. I purchased a simmilar set from Amazon a year ago because it was a $300 set or irons reduced to $100. 2.0 out of 5 stars you can do better, April 30, 2006
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
I am writing this as a review of Hippo clubs in general. I purchased a simmilar set from Amazon a year ago because it was a $300 set or irons reduced to $100. I was interested in the graphite shafts (all I have ever used is steel) and wanted a cheap set to travel with (I have had 2 different sets of clubs lost during travel).

The first thing that I noticed with these clubs was my miss-hits rose dramatically. The clubs looked nice enough, but their performance was less than par. When I talked with my club pro, he said that the problem with buying graphite shafted clubs that are inexpensive like these Hippos is that the shafts are cheap not consistant. Your average pro plays with graphite shafts that cost up to $80 each. He also indicated to me that high handicappers tend to buy cheap clubs (which was a humbling fact that I had to swallow), and that high handicappers tend to play better with steel shafts.

All of this being said, I chalked up my $100 mistake and began looking locally at all of the golf shops for high-quality pre-owned clubs. After 2 weeks, I found a hardly used set of '04 Big Berthas for $359. I talked the salesman down to $299 and walked out with the best set of clubs that I have ever hit. I guess my point is that if you are looking at these clubs, you are either a new or relatively unskilled player-- like me. If this is the case, take some time and search out high-quality pre-owned or used equipment that will make your learning curve my shorter. Let the golfers that get new clubs every two years spend $600-$1000 for new sets. Take advantage of their trade-ins. That's my opinion anyway.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
This club set, although the most popular on Amazon, is definetly NOT the best out there. Allow me to run through all the elements.

The bag - 4 stars - The bag I got was NOT the bag in the picture here. It is smaller and has less room, but it is still a relativly high quality bag. It is outfitted with comfortable back straps and an adequate amount of pockets for balls, tees, and other golf things. RECCOMENDATION - KEEP IT

Now to review the clubs

Putter - 3 stars - This putter is alright. I guess you couldn't expect better for one that came in a box set. The grip is a bit uncomfortable, and occasionally this hindered my shots. The putter, in my opinion, does not have a very good feel, but it will suffice for those who aren't too picky. RECCOMENDATION - FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GET THE BEST OUT OF THEIR GAME, GET A NEW PUTTER.

Irons - 3 stars - Definetly the strongest element of this set, you get a 3-9 iron plus a PW, all of which function very well. I suppose my only complaint would be that the clubs, once again, don't have a very good feel to them. RECCOMENDATION - IF YOU WANT A PREMIUM SET OF IRONS, DO NOT BOTHER INVESTING IN THIS SET. BUT IF YOU WANT AN ADEQUETE SET OF IRONS FOR A VALUE PRICE, YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER THIS SET.

Woods - ? stars - Sorry, but I have not played on these woods since I got this set. However, they will most likely have the same flaw as the driver, which you can see in the driver review.

Driver - 1.5 stars - The driver (and most likely the woods in this set) are the worst element of this set. Actually, the driver was pretty good (for the price) until... I was at the driving range, and I took a swing and (yes, I'm a pretty bad golfer) hit the top of the head on the ball. I then saw that there was a HUGE dent on the driver, and the face was partially dislodged from the head in some spots. Now suspicious, I went home and decided to run a test on the driver. When I pressedmy finger on the top of the head, the top of the head, obviously made out of thin metal, slightly caved in. I wasn't even pressing overly hard, and it DENTED FROM MY FINGER. RECCOMENDATION - FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR A PREMIUM WOODS SET, RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY! BUY SOMETHING ELSE. BUT IF YOU HAVE A NARROW BUDGET AND DON'T HAVE A RISK OF DENTING THE HEAD, YOU MAY WANT TO BUY THIS SET.

OVERALL RECCOMENDATION - FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR QUALITY, OR THOSE AT AN INTERMEDIATE LEVEL, THIS SET MAY HINDER IF NOT WORSEN YOUR PLAY. IF YOU'RE AN EXPERIENCED PLAYER, THEN FORGET ABOUT IT. BUT IF YOU'RE A BEGINNER/FIRST-TIMER LOOKING FOR YOUR FIRST SET, OR HAVE A NARROW BUDGET, THIS MAY BE A GOOD CHOICE FOR YOU. JUST KNOW THAT THIS SET MAY NOT HAVE QUALITY COMPARED TO NAME-BRAND CLUBS OR SETS. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY, YOU SHOULD REALLY INVEST IN A HIGH QUALITY SET.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for average player, August 9, 2006
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
I have used these clubs for numerous visits to the driving range and many games on local courses. I have had no problems whatever and am very happy with them; they are a pleasure to use. They may not be good enough for top players; I am certainly not one, but I believe they are outstanding value for money for the beginner and intermediate player. I find it hard to believe the guy who says his driver head broke after ten shots - he is so vitriolic I wonder if he works for a rival company.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
I am a beginning golfer so I can't tell if my shots are bad because of me or the club. Overall these clubs performed rather well. The fairway woods were good and i had no problem with them. The driver isn't great, doesn't have a good feel to it, but it may be that I am not a good driver player. The irons were the best part of this se until about 3 months in when I bent two of the club faces. They actually caved in from hitting it too high off the tee. However Hippo says they will replace the defective clubs if i send them in. THe putter is alright a decent one and the bag has been flawless. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, you can't beat a golf set for 120 bucks even if I may need to send in a few irons or replace them.

4.0 out of 5 stars A truly great surprise, March 18, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
I have now had these clubs for 3 weeks. They replaced an old set I had been using for 30 years. What a joy to move into the modern age. The set was good for 6 strokes on my first game. The sweet spot is marvelous and the slice and hook ratio is way down The quality is much better than expected, especially for the money. For the occasional amateur player like myself, they really fill the bill. I would not hesitate to reccomend this set to others who would like to improve their game and only play occasionally.

1.0 out of 5 stars driver head cracked wide open after hitting about 10 balls, February 13, 2006
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
This club set is by far the worst I ever used. I bought it last December. Last weekend I took it out for the first time in a driving range. After hitting about 10 drivers, the head just cracked wide open. I didn't hit the ground or anything like that, the head didn't broke off, just literally cracked wide open. This is horrible!! No driver should crack after only 10 hits.

Don't ever buy this brand. I would give it a 0 if there were such rating

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Product!, May 23, 2007
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
I am sorry to say, but this product was terrible. First and most of all, it was so terrible, because the company did not send what was pictured in the ad. We were sent a small black & marroon bag that was broken from the start. I tried to contact anyone from Amazon, but had no luck. They emailed me that they would refund some of my money, but that has not happened either. I order online a lot, but this time it was a mistake.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good starter set, May 13, 2007
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
This is my first set. I started to some classes. I am very satisfied with putter, PW and irons. They are very responsive, accurate even for a starter.
My woods and driver are OK. I am not sure but I think they are too light and flexing too much during the swing. I can not control them as I d like. This can be me as a starter but I will try some other drivers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good temporary clubs, March 21, 2007
This review is from: HiPPO X-P2 Complete Golf Kit (Men's, Right-Handed, All Graphite Shafts, Standard Flex) (Sports)
I was looking for an inexpensive set to have shipped to a relative's home out of my state where I visit occasionally. Although I have not used them yet, my relative says they seem like good clubs except that there was a defect with the bag where the clubs are separated. Even so I was pleased with my purchase at a price of 100.00 including shipping. I didn't find any other clubs, even used ones, that were priced that low. Now I won't have to rent clubs for every round or haul my regular set through airport baggage terminals.
